Eastern Sierra InterAgency Visitor Center

I'm not sure if you can pay the entrance fee at the Eastern Sierra InterAgency Visitor Center (located about one mile south of Lone Pine), but they are likely to be able to advise you as to your best option.

Yellow Frocks

I'm only three years late in answering this post, but for what it's worth, I'm leaning towards Yellow Frocks. I'm in the middle of putting up a page for False Woolly Sunflower (which has only five ray flowers ... the things that most people would call petals). Here's what I have so far... False Wool...

Here's a picture I snapped a couple hours ago while hiking in the Slate Range. http://dvplants.com/images/tele.jpg As you can see there is a little snow along the ridge line and on the peak to the north (probably Bennett). Since it is the southwest face of Telescope Peak that we see in the picture, ...

Basically we're headed into what looks to be our third consecutive year of drought. So, I'd say that things do not look good for spring wildflowers this year. The ten day forecast shows no chance of precipitation and so it's not likely we'll see any rain before the end of the month. As for the two h...

Interesting info. When I was hiking by the lakes listed in this video a year ago (Summer 2012), I had a lot of questions and all the questions are answered in this video. So thanks for posting the link to the video. BTW, when I was there, there was a leak in the Waugh Lake Dam. Trains of 25 horses a...

Rather than start a new topic, I figured I'd go ahead and tag onto this one. I've been up to Monache Meadows a couple times so far this summer and highly recommend the area to anyone who likes hiking in the mountains! The jeep trail in is rather tame compared to many of the jeep trails (as opposed t...

Trip report posted: http://www.dvplants.com/SITES/TELESCOPE/ Since my "trip report" is just a bunch of pictures with captions, I'll add a little info here: 1) Pinyon Broomrape - Although that sounds a little weird, it's the name of a plant! This plant was found about a mile and a half from the trail...

In rereading my earlier comment, it looks like I should clarify that the "sign" that I was referring to regarding the Wilderness area boundary was actually just a plastic or fiberglass post type marker and not something of a more substantial or permanent nature. I didn't see any kind of sign at all...

I hiked to Eagle (dry) Spring two days ago. There is a trail, but it doesn't line up with what is shown on the maps. I'm sorting through 450 pictures (mostly plants) currently and will post some kind of report in a day or two. Back in the early 1990s there was a sign marking the trail and I hiked pa...

We visited the Blue Monster mine in March 2012 and there was a Wilderness sign posted at the boundary...maybe it's been taken down or knocked over? There was no wilderness sign at all. It may be that someone who objected to vehicles being prohibited removed the sign... most likely not a case of ext...

Blue Monster Mine (Inyo Wilderness)

This last week I did a hike to the Blue Monster Mine and the Lucky Boy Mine near Lead Canyon on the east side of the Inyo Range. I followed the basic info presented in Digonnet's book on the area. The route starts at an unmarked intersection and Digonnet has this to say about the trailhead: Drive th...

It's just frustrating that people do this. They could have died (the newspaper story said they broke into the trailers, though) and they did waste a lot of taxpayer resources to get rescued. IMHO, they should be required to pay the full cost of the search and rescue operation, plus they should full...

Furnace Mine
Pretty sure that's the name Digonnet provides for that one. Here's a link to the pics I took when I hiked to it:
