Re: April 1 to 6

Thanks, Kauri. Yes, I want to see the Moonlight Natural Bridge. By the way, the last canyon before turning to the Moonlight Bridge appears to have maybe its own bridge. I noticed this on GE. Has anyone been here to see if this is a bridge or just a pile of rocks. https://photos.smugmug.com/Nature/Mi...

April 1 to 6

We will be in DV April 1 to 6. Hope the temps stay below 90. Planning on canyon hikes: Mummy, Red Wall, Palmer (from Scottys Castle Road), and Moonlight. I'll be 71 by then. Ridgeline scrambles, steep bypasses, or The Cauldron are a bit too gnarly for my currrent abilities.  DV always...

Re: Funeral Slot Scramble - Chimney Fall Stop

Thanks for all the videos you post. I love them! When I want to know where I went, I start recording a track on my GPS, stick it in a pocket, and forget about it. I save the track at the end. Be sure to move away from the track screen before pocketing the unit. Buttons get pushed as the unit jostles...

The hike from Zabrieski back to the Golden Canyon parking lot is via Gower Gulch. It's worth a look to do the round trip.

"National parks are the best idea we ever had. Absolutely American, absolutely democratic, they reflect us at our best rather than our worst."

- Wallace Stegner

Unfortunately, our parks are reduced to panhandling and bake sales to fund critical projects.

Re: Toted my telescope atop Telescope Peak

According to the book California Place Names by Erwin Gudde, this is how Telescope Peak got its name. The peak was named in April 1861 by W. T. Henderson because of the wide, clear view that it afforded. Henderson was one of the California Rangers who are credited with having killed the bandit Joaqu...

Re: RIP Death Valley pay phones

Except that cell phone coverage along the paved roads in the park is no longer unreliable. Its been good for years. People need to stop clinging to and spreading outdated information. No one used those pay phones because cell phones worked. I didn't know this. I have always assumed little to no cel...

I have a pair of Leki Super Makalu's that I have used for 20 years. I don't know what it takes to wear these poles out. You get what you pay for.

Re: October Trip Planning

I added up our trips. I didn't realize that we have been in DV 20 times in 19 years. Where did those 19 years go? When we were last in Jayhawker Canyon in 2010, someone had marked the easiest path from the road into the canyon by building cairns and rock linings. It was a pretty substantial effort t...

If you check Ebay regularly, the Nevada set will turn up sooner or later along with every other state. NG discontinued this product years ago. Caltopo.com is an alternative source of topos.

You are more reckless than I to have clicked on that link, but thanks for letting me know what I missed :)
I run both McAfee and Malwarebytes. Hopefully, not much can get past them.
