Re: Funny TV popcorn commercial shot in DV

Though rapid paced, I noticed a lot of scenes filmed at Olancha, Panamint Valley and elsewhere.

Re: Furnace Creek Chevron

My truck always was more prone to pinging on the valley floor than anywhere else. It has been well over a decade since I gassed up at Stovepipe pr Furnace Creek - and hey! I’ve topped off a few times at Scotty’s Castle. But my experience was often I’d find the stations closed early, sometimes two or...

Re: The Wild West Uncovered - The Real Virginia City

Some of the lessons learned here could apply to some of the history of Death Valley? I haven’t seen the video, but, I express my opinion. Virginia City’s culture and life represent an era of society based on and influenced large cities, especially San Francisco and New York. The era was also a time...

Re: Snow on the Eureka Dunes, Dec. 2003

Nice! I know what you mean on cost of doing photography. I had gone digital in 1998, but before then shot primarily Kodachrome 64. And, yes, I remember the snow on the dunes in 2003. I got a shot or two of snow on the dunes from over the years, but all of them from a distance. Actually, snow on them...

Re: Eureka Dunes Photography Trip

The road in from Big Pine is paved to the bottom of Eureka Valley. The rest is maintained dirt. However, as mentioned, is often washboarded. South Eureka Road is also a bit rocky in spots. In winter and spring months, snow can also be a factor. The county will plow the road, but it might be two or m...

Re: Solstice Synchronicity 2010, 2016, 20194

The even bigger question is: Who of you reading this post will be in the park on December 21, 2094 to document the rare solstice? Maybe if there will be an ADA approved wheelchair access trail to the top of the peak by then. Or if an all terrain powered chair will be affordle. Because I’ll be 140 y...

Re: Racetrack Rock history

I recall on my first trip to the moving rocks I found small metal tags stuck on individual stones identifying the rock and the institution studying it.

Re: What is it, and/or where is it?

Took me a while to find it on Google Maps in satellite view. From what little background I could see in your photo I knew it was in a mesquite grove and likely along West Side Road. At first I was thinking it was part of the old Eagle borax works, but I couldn’t see evidence of any tanks. Took me ab...

Re: Spotted in DV: A western spotted skunk!

When I lived in Big Pine, racoons and skunks were always present under the house in the crawl space. Really kept that area clean and tidy! Never worried about back widowswhen I had to do under house work.

Re: DVNP Trip - Spring 2016

Mr. Wright, please enjoy other stories you find on the blog. Thank you! I enjoy stuff about my back yard. I lived in June Lake during the 1970s and half of the 1980s, Big Pine until 2008, Winnemucca since. I enjoy seeing stuff I wasn’t aware of. By the way, though it was once far mor...

Re: finding most recent posts on mobile site?

I also miss the old new items since last visit search to filter. It took a while, but I finally found a way. Not quite as good as the old link, it doesn’t drop you down to the first post of the latest since your last log in, but close enough. I use an iPad. Hit “Qick Links” at the top far left, dire...

Re: Throw no stones

Off the east side of Border Avenue, within a couple miles of where the road makes a sharp 90 degree turn west and become Reche Road heading to Landers and CA247. I may be totally wrong, but the background fits perfectly.
