Re: Actual Lowest Point -282 ft.

For many years now, one of the destinations which was at the top of my to-do list in Death Valley was the hike to the Actual Lowest Point in Death Valley. Glad you made it. Thanks for the report. I can't believe I was within tens of feet of that stuff and didn't see it. Was there any indication of ...

My post was unacceptably misleading. Apologies.

The "it" I've noticed is general mud mischief out on the playa. I have no evidence rocks are missing.

Steve, please don't fail to go there based on this thread. The actuality is far more subtle than my disgust.

Re: Racetrack

My husband and I went to the Racetrack two weekends ago and didn't see as many rocks on the playa as we had a few years ago. Were we imagining things or have some idiots taken them? I have just returned from the Racetrack today and it definitely appears that rocks are missing. There are loads of tr...

Re: Titus Canyon - March 9, 2008

..Titus Canyon was just purdiful.. Nice report, thanks. BTW, your choice of vehicle and color suggests a person of great intelligence, charm, and wit. ;-) ..It catapulted to the top of my offroad adventures.. Just curious, have I ever been forgiven for recommending Mengel Pass as a lovely afternoon...

Black Bears reputation is a subject of interest to me. I wonder as to its exact origins, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's mostly a product of the local 4WD tour companies and Chamber of Commerce. I was in the area a few years ago, doing various 4WD trails, but with no intention of doing Black Bea...

It's a composite photo. Look at the rectangle of clear trees to the right of the jeep that extends from the fender to the top of the picture. Compare that to the blurred trees to the left and below. Also, look how straight the road edge is.

Re: Looking for Camera Harness for Rough Country Travel

I am looking for suggestions on how to carry a 35mm Canon Digital Rebel camera so that it will be accessible but securely restrained while hiking or backpacking over pretty uneven terrain. I'm not a camera guy and I'm sure there are much better formal solutions, but I'm completely satisfied with th...

Highly recommended. There's so much room for improvement, though, I see a version 2 coming in no time. Still, it's been more than worth it for a guy like me who likes to wander.

I think sometime in the last three weeks or so. According to the dates on my pictures, I last traversed Lippincott on October 14, 2007 and the old signs were in place then. I prefered the older signs also. Interesting. So the paint was barely dry, apparently. I think it would be appropriate to allo...

Don't know if the old sign had been repainted, but I do remember the old sign, with the same style lettering, back in the early 70's. Seems a shame the old sign is gone. It was very unique, and clearly portrayed the potential hazards ahead. David Bricker / SYR Thanks. I thought I detected an entry ...

Refurbished Lippincott Road sign

Anyone know when this took place? Had to be after early April this year. The old sign had been undisturbed (by the NPS anyway) for quite some time, as far as I can tell. Anyone know how long?

You're right but the sand was very soft. Almost like walking in sand dunes.
