Re: Bugs right now?

Bugs? I never take bug repellent to DV. Once I had some nasty gnats at the mouth of Grotto Canyon in March in the evening.

Re: Two reasons why I love Death Valley

Nice pix. And you were up early :) Some of my favorite pix are the mountain shadows creeping across the desert floor, but I'm usually getting the mountains on the west side towards sunset. The best pix are early or late!

Re: May 12-19, Telescope and Panamint City

I've driven to both those trailheads multiple times in sedans, driving carefully, so anything with higher clearance should be fine, if the roads are in normal conditions Snow? Hard to call, there's been a lot of snow in the last month or so but places that get sun are likely to be clear. There is so...

Very nice TR, thanks for posting. It's an interesting location that probably doesn't get much use either.

Re: Hiking Death Valley - Second Edition

Thanks, did not realize there is a new addition out. There's little on the Owlsheads other than Steve Hall's web site so that's a welcome addition. Getting rid of Kerdell, yes, that was a pretty obscure hike. Wahguyhe Peak? Oh man that is a killer killer scree scramble, did me in! When the first edi...

Re: Pictures of sheep in Fall Cyn

Yes, I, too can see only the first pic. I've not seen sheep around Fall/Titus/Redwall area. There's a lot on Tucki, I suspect they drink at Twin Spring judging by all the evidence there. They are elusive though and it's always fun to spot them, and often hard, too, as they are quite shy most of the ...

Ah you work for Patagonia. Good company! And I remember their old "stand up shorts" that even I took a decade to wear out!

Hey, Taco, weren't you supposed to be out there in March? Was wondering what you ended up doing.

Re: March 2018 trip

Are you going to be posting info about your Basin & Range / Gold Buttes trips anywhere? Funny, I was just thinking about that. Both trips had a bunch of time devoted to service projects so not so many highlights, but I have a number of Gold Butte trips that are worth a report of their own. Basin an...

March 2018 trip

We got to the Valley the first week of March, narrowly escaping a bad winter storm on the east coast. We stayed at Furnace Creek Ranch (now the Oasis) for the first time ever. The room was nicer than what we usually get at SPW, though it cost significantly more, and, beware, they charge a totally gr...

Re: Newbie mistakes, sheep in Fall Cyn, and a shout-out to Steve Hall

Sounds like a great trip, if a bit on the hot side.
Always fun to find a spring out there, isn't it?

And it's always worth remembering that when it's windy / dusty in the valley, go into the canyons.
