Page 21 at the bottom.. I am D.P. I thought these little boys deserved a better headstone. I plan on doing it to other graves that are deteriorating.
Aha, so now I know who put up the new marker!

Re: Hunter Pass Open?

Oops, I just saw this! Here is a good resource for the most up-to-date Saline Valley and South/North Pass road conditions: http://forum.salinepreservation.org/?forum=162656 Yesterday (Dec. 12), NPS posted on the DV Road Conditions Facebook page that North Pass is closed due to snow. Meanwhile, South...

Re: Finally, summit Blue Mtn via BM - Corkscrew Canyon

FYI - Since I planted a summit register on Blue Mountain in September 2018, there are no new entries. I was hoping that there would be a few. I've publicized your route a little bit, by posting about it in the forums at Lists of John! I need to sit down and go through all your posts about...

Re: Thanksgiving dinner at Amargosa Cafe in DV Junction

At practically the last moment, I was persuaded to attend PSR's dinner instead! Which may have been for the best... While driving from Las Vegas to PSR that morning, I detoured to look around DV Junction. I observed a fellow out in the dirt parking area roughly between the hotel entrance and the caf...

Re: Pinto Peak

Follow-up: Over Thanksgiving weekend, I did finally make it up Pinto Peak. However, I didn't use the route from Emigrant Pass. I instead started/finished at Towne Pass, using Bob Burd's class 2 variation on that route. This route is a little longer and steep in spots, but you're walking and there i...

Re: Rogers Peak comm facility proposals (inc. AT&T wireless)

2. DEATH VALLEY NATURAL HISTORY ASSOCIATION has a licensed FM station, K204BW at 88.7 frequency. I doubt that they broadcast anything but I'll try to tune in next time I'm there. That reminds me, at one time there was a radio station operating in DV. It was quite awhile ago, maybe in the 30's? I re...

Yes, the propane is a supplement to the SCE solar arrays.

The document below will tell you just about everything you might want to know about the facilities on Rogers Peak! :blah:

Rogers Peak comm facility proposals (inc. AT&T wireless)

The Park Service is reportedly getting ready to take public comments regarding the Rogers Peak Multi-Use Instrumentation and Communication Facility. Here's the web site: https://parkplanning.nps.gov/projectHome.cfm?projectID=74087 As that page shows, a number of agencies have applied for permission ...

Bumping an old thread...

By chance, did anyone save the route map that was posted on this thread? If so, could you please re-post it here? Thanks!

Re: Gas price: FC higher than PSR?

On November 22, I saw:

FC: $4.73
SW: $3.40
PS: $5.14

In the past, I've observed the price at FC changing noticeably ($.20-.30 or more) over just a couple of days. Furthermore, it seemed that it was higher on the weekend/holiday, then went down during the week.

The ultimate Badwater to Mt. Whitney trek?

Apparently this book was published in 2012, but I just saw it this weekend in the FC Visitor Center. "…an epic 125 mile cross-country trek—280 degree direct route compass heading—that took two men from Badwater, Death Valley (282 feet below sea level) to the summit of Mt. Whitney (14,495 feet). It w...

RIP Death Valley pay phones

First they took out the radiator water tanks. Now, in another nod to progress, the Death Valley pay phones are gone. :bawling: ;-) I don't know about you, but over the years I spent some quality time at the ones in FC and SW. Particularly when there was no cell service available at all. Or when my ...

Re: Mosaic Canyon Road is closed through June 30, 2019

I took this pic of the closure on Nov. 23. Note strategic use of the phrase, "Area closed to all traffic." Does that include foot traffic (or mountain bikes up to the canyon mouth)? I didn't inquire, but you might want to if you're planning to visit Mosaic Canyon! https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4897...
