Last Chance Cabin 2003 (since burned down)

Some more scans from my old 35mm prints... Pics of the old Last Chance Cabin, taken February 8, 2003. I don't remember when, but some time after that, it burned down. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4591/27792672099_9a2e775895_o.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4598/39568839771_48542794c2_o.j...

Snow on the Eureka Dunes, Dec. 2003

Came across these while going through my 35mm prints. If I saw this nowadays, I'd take 100 pics! Obviously, back in the dark ages of print film, only pros would take dozens of shots of anything. After all, unlike using digital, every print cost money. But that's still no excuse for me only taking tw...

Re: Source for recent satellite images?

Thanks for the answers.

I just moved, and I don't have internet set up yet here. Once I get some actual Broadband again at home, I will check out the sites.

If anyone else has any suggestions, feel free to share them!

Re: Coyote Christmas Greetings from old Furnace Creek

Merry Christmas from my home in Las Vegas!

Maybe the holiday lights in the new place to be built will be even better! ;-) I hope at least the cafe has better food, lol.

Source for recent satellite images?

Could anyone point me to a website where I can view the most recent satellite images possible? I.e., more current than you typically find on Google Earth. And yes, I am mostly interested in Death Valley itself.

Re: What is it, and/or where is it?

Nope, its not off 190 east or near Wildrose. And definitely not in Israel or Oregon! :D This little trail takes off from next to the Grapevine Ranger Station. As the sign indicates, its only about 100 yards long. So it simply winds around a bit, passing by several low markers like the one in the pic...

Maybe my ashes will be there. I like the idea myself. But, make sure whoever is spreading them has a permit from the superintendent (see pg. 5) !! https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.nps.gov/deva/learn/management/upload/2016SuperintendentsCompendium.pdf&ved=0ahUK...

No guesses, even? It's in a developed area, but not in Furnace or Cow Creek. Is that enough of a hint?

The even bigger question is: Who of you reading this post will be in the park on December 21, 2094 to document the rare solstice?
I'll be there in spirit!

Re: Eureka Dunes Photography Trip

1. The dirt roads you would be driving over are usually wash boarded but otherwise in pretty good shape. 2 and 3. If you don't already have it, grab a copy of Michel Digonnet's book "Hiking Western Death Valley National Park." He describes some day hikes in the area. I highly recommend his hike to t...

Re: Furnace Creek Chevron

I forgot to mention, if at all possible buy your fuel up in stovepipe Wells. You'll find it considerably cheaper up there.

In the past, I have bought gas there after hours with a credit card.

I think their phone number is 760-786-2322.
