Pinnacles road

It's been several years since I was down the route you describe, but here's what conditions were like then: Not much gravel, but lots of sand, though we had no trouble with 2WD. The route is heavily used by ATV's and goes up and down thru lots of cross-washes. Not much washboard due to being so sand...

Telescope Peak conditions?

Can anyone report the current snow conditions on Telescope Peak? Would like to try for the peak in the next few weeks. I assume the road is now open to the Mahogany Flat trailhead.

Telescope Peak

Anyone care to predict what the best time to climb Telescope Peak will be this spring? I was there last year mid-May and about died from the heat, so I am planning an earlier trip this year. Suggestions welcome!

E-mail or phone # needed

Can anyone supply the phone number with extension, or e-mail address for the current backcountry Ranger at Death Valley NP? Used to be Charlie Callagan but I have been unable to locate him through the NPS directory.

Telescope Peak in May..

Can anyone report on current snow conditions at Telescope Peak? Would like to make a trip to the top next week, but don't want to drive down from Oregon if it's still the middle of winter up there!

RE: Anybody done the petroglyph tour at China Lake?

My wife & I took this tour last spring. Well worth the effort & planning. The tours fill up early, so get your application in as soon as possible. The Navy is serious about the security & other requirements.. be certain you are complying with all or you will be denied entry.

DV Visit

"I think I'll start at Trail Canyon first, to allow one day exploring Titus Canyon, Chloride City, Bullfrog, & Rhyolite."

No way. Take at least a day for each.

The Hot Spring at the Warm Spring Canyon Mining Camp

It's been several years since I have been there, but at that time there was no "soaking" pool up at the spring. There was a small basin in which one could sit and bail water over one's self, but you could not really get submerged.

Eagle Spring?

Some maps show a trail branching west to Eagle Spring, very near the final ascent to Telescope Peak. Does anyone know the condition of the spring? Any water available? Is the mapped trail still there and traceable?

Cottonwood-Marble Cyn in February

I am planning a trip to Death valley in late February, and would like to do a several-day backpack in Marble/Cottonwood Canyons. At the present time I am thinking about starting at road's end in Marble Canyon & hiking up it to Goldbelt; then return and up Dead Horse Cyn to Cottonwood. Hike down Cott...
