If you're going the way I think you're going, the lower part of the route to the trail is smoother than ever. Huge gravel flow that covered all the small falls and boulders all the way up the main canyon after the lower falls.

I love CalTopo for creating custom maps. 7.5, and other, Topos are also free to download from the USGS . Nice to be able to choose an older map that may have info not on later maps. You can order printed maps too. IMO, the newest 'National Map' topos aren't that great since they omit quite a bit of ...

There was one of those towable, electronic road signs on Badwater road, just south of 190 announcing the closure @ the beginning of the month. I imagine it was universally ignored since we saw plenty of people heading south on Badwater after sunset.

Completely missed the point. Big or small, give the Park a reason to f with stuff and it will.

Well, they've now been brought to the Park's attention, so .......

Unless there's another pair, nobody moved the cars. They are still there as of 1/1/16.

Deep Enough for the Crampton book. Garlic Springs is well within the boundary of Ft. Irwin, very close to the actual 'base'. Other than a few years in the late 40s and early 70s, the base has been in continuous operation since 1940. Doubtful that many, other than those involved in the military/archa...

You do not need a Facebook account to see the Park's road condition page: Death Valley Road Conditions You can scroll back through the posts to see what's been going on instead of just today's info. Titus was closed, road to Scotty's Castle was under several feet of debris in places, Big Pine Road c...

The section of road that is 'closed' is between Wildrose and Panamint Valley, not an issue for your planned route. My son and I stayed at Mahogany Flats 2 weeks ago. Sites are fine, outhouses were clean but quite smelly. Luck o' the draw as to when they get pumped and you show up. As for road condit...

When we drove by on 5/24 it appeared to be open.

I think the fact that it is no longer a Chevron but an independent dealer is giving the 'permanently closed' listing until the Google database is updated.

Thank you. Made it up no problem. There were a few turns where I would have preferred the shorter wheelbase of your CRV, but the road itself was in great shape.

Thanks again!

Astro Artz Cabin road conditions

Looking at taking a stroll up Centennial Canyon in the near future. Is the road(s) doable in a long wheel base 2WD F250 pickup w/BFG AT? From the corral, is the preferred route to the cabin the direct one, or what appears to be the better kept road to the clay pits and then head north on the road th...
