Thanks for the find & photo; good history. That is incredible, to find a document like that from 1928, nearly 86 years ago. Perhaps Inyo County still has the records. You should ask the DV Natl Park service too. If you found it in DVNP, I would think it is their property. But it seems like they woul...

Steve, thanks for the blog link. Looks like some great hikes, and it looks like you're enjoying your DV trip!! Stovepipe Wells Wifi - that reminds of my experience there Jan 30/31, 2014. When a family emergency back home forced me to seek wifi access, I found the Stovepipe Wells wifi access extremel...

Thanks for all the info Steve. I've got to get started researching Kauai now, for sure. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. If the relatives want to visit other islands, I should have hikes planned there too. Thanks again for the tips. Hope you have a really nice trip in May. And the trip ...

Jes, Gowergulch is right; didn't mean to confuse anyone. That's just Gower Gulch wash at the paved Badwater Rd, of the ol' heavily traveled Golden Canyon, Gower Gulch, Zabriskie Point, etc. Parked on Badwater Rd, walked for about 5,10 minutes up the wash to the fall. Surprisingly, didn't see any hik...

Great Report Steve!! Write-up, photos!! Congrats on doing the entire hike. I may be going to Kauai later this year or next, with my Aunt & Uncle (their son, daughter-in-law, their kids, and her kin live there), and I plan to hike most of the trip. It would be my very first trip to Hawaiian Islands. ...

Another short one. Always wanted to take the short walk up Gower Gulch wash, look at the fall. Also walked to canyon just south; it's an immediate fall there, but walked up slid to the right and got a nice elevated view of Gower Gulch wash. Thanks Gowergulch. I'm not good at estimating heights, but I'd guess 30+ feet, maybe 40 feet. Here's a couple more photos of the rock sticking out, close and far. That rock seemed to be 15 feet up, and it looks below half-way up the wall. That wall inside BHG wash that I posted in the other thread, ...

2014 jan DV trip, DV Wash, south from Mesquite Springs CG

It's another easy, yet stunning, walk in Death Valley Wash, south of Mesquite Springs Campground. Great views of both the Grapevine and Cottonwoods Mts. But also you see nicely cut walls on both sides of the Wash - what, it's the effects of DV Wash against the alluvial fans of the Grapevines and the...

Thanks Mojave. Absolutely, DV Wash is a very easy, very safe hike (good grief, you could probably push a baby stroller all the way to Ubehebe Crater road!!), and it's got a lot of unique views and plenty of seclusion.

2014 Jan DV trip, views of Big Horn Gorge mouth from DV Wash

I'm breaking the report on my hike in Death Valley Wash, south from Mesquite Springs Campground, into two posts. This one is just about unique photos of the mouth of Big Horn Gorge while walking in DV wash. I'll post a separate report on DV wash. I guess only BHG fans will enjoy the views. Here's th...

Thanks Steve. Like I said, when you posted your excellent trip report on Mummy Canyon, I remembered something about the area, so I built in a couple extra hours to hike around. And sure enough, when I got there, I noticed the possibility of extra images in similar rock formations around the area. Th...
