It never occurred to me to keep track of how many times I've visited the Park!
I started saving my entrance fee receipts about 5 years ago, so I use that, plus my photos. I wanna make it to over 200 :D

Re: Ghost Town for sale

I just saw this and replied over on Panamintvalley.com . And here I'll ask the same question I asked there! "...Hike to the Saddle - one of the only places on earth that you can see both the nation's highest peak in Mt. Whitney and the deepest valley in Death Valley..." I'm not sure which...

Re: Missing Mt. Whitney Hiker: Last Picture from Badwater

Really a terrible ending, I had been following this story since it broke. Sadly, I think we're going to see situations such as this increasing, especially after reading this article. https://www.outsideonline.com/2330916/mount-whitney-climbing-accidents Personally, I have serious issues with mountai...

Re: RIP Death Valley pay phones

Boooooooo.

Keep the payphones. Even though SPW and FCR have pretty good cell service now, it isn't full-proof. As Mojave Geek stated, those 4-5 minutes you got were perfect for checking in with people and letting them know you were alive. I did it many times.

Re: Death Valley Ravens

Gower- This one followed me and brought me a twig as a gift, I guess!

DVD-The sleeping circles in this area are of the human type, however, I have seen the bighorn variety! I have better shots of them, but they give away the location. Send me a PM if you would like to see more of the layout.

And of course to get up early again the next day and repeat!

I know the drill I need to recover after my "vacations", starting with sleeping for the entire flight home. Play hard :)
When I got back home in March I slept 14 hours the first night, I was goooooooooooone.

Wow, I thought I was up to a lot of trips for someone who has to fly in (planning a brief #14, since 2008) in August.
McCarran is such a mess   . But it is a small price to pay for Death Valley!

Re: October Trip Planning

I added up our trips. I didn't realize that we have been in DV 20 times in 19 years. Where did those 19 years go? When we were last in Jayhawker Canyon in 2010, someone had marked the easiest path from the road into the canyon by building cairns and rock linings. It was a pretty substantial effort ...

I was camping at Texas Spring and turned it into a loop hike of about 15 miles along the base of the mountains.
Do you have any images to share?
I do. I'm in the process of reorganising my stuff so I'll post them Friday!

15-16 miles is an "easy day" You're quite the walker.

Your 35 trips... I'm at 33 but my first was in 1990 :)
:D :D :D :D

I am also completely nuts, so walking that far to me is fun. After walking that far I basically have enough energy to make my food eat and go to sleep.

Death Valley Ravens

I find this so interesting- I have had ravens accompany me on hikes in the same area twice, three years apart. They are much less insistent than coyotes. They seem to really love the sleeping circles too :). https://imgur.com/huTz1Z7.jpeg https://imgur.com/NTGyDD6.jpeg https://imgur.com/3a5xrak.jpeg

October Trip Planning

Well, I just purchased my flight to Vegas for October. This will be trip # 35 since 2006. :D :D :D :D Those of you familiar with my activities know that I am always careful about what I reveal in public. So here comes some extreme vagueness. I get in early (before 9AM), which means I will be in the ...

Re: Above Chimney Fall In The Funeral Slot

I did this one in fall of 2017.

I was camping at Texas Spring and turned it into a loop hike of about 15 miles along the base of the mountains. There are a lot more slots in this area.

Re: Three trips worth of finds

Thank you for keeping locations under your hat and photos showing backgrounds that offer few clues. I'm so paranoid about that stuff. One of those sites is only about 2 miles from someplace frequently travelled so I only go early in the morning when there is less traffic. I'm even more protective t...
