Re: M 7.1 earthquake in Ridgecrest

Wow, thanks for posting this information. The Lane Walker blogs are especially interesting as the aftershocks have moved in the direction going north. I am up in San Jose right now but have to get back to my place in Orange County and plan on a side trip to Trona to check it out. I have not research...

Re: 6.4 earthquake in Ridgecrest

Saw the earth shifted and the news reported a 12" crack was created on 178 outside of Trona. But actual footage shows more like 4-5". I was in Orange County and we had a rolling type of experience but was pretty mild. I have been is some pretty nasty quakes and knew instantly we were experiencing on...

Re: Rainbow Canyon in the LA Times

Been there when they were flying in the Panamint Valley and put on an incredible display. They buzzed my friend and myself. I was driving a Corvette and one of the fighters dropped so low and close I could see the rivets on the plane. It was pretty amazing as 3 fighters buzzed the Valley. We were on...

Re: California Condor On The Colorado Close-up

Very cool, lots of Condors are in AZ. I run Big Sur marathon, a 26.2 mile run from Pfiefer Big Sur Park to Carmel, along Hwy 1 and it is not unusual to see condors along the course. Very ugly, but impressive birds.

Lake Elsinore, Anzo Borrego and Joshua Tree Wildflower Trip

One of the advantages of being retired, you can do last second trips. Heard Lake Elsinore was exploding along with very select sections of Anzo Borrego and JoshuaTree. Did not head into DV, just did not hear of much happening besides inclement weather. This is just a few pics, I think I took over 14...

Yosemite - Horsetail Falls/Firefall Waterfall - Amazing

Being retired has its advantages. Saw a plethora of articles that Horsetail Falls in Yosemite has a very narrow window but is getting lit up. So, I drove from Orange County to my home in San Jose(A 10 hour trip due to heavy snow on I-5), then met a friend Friday AM where we drove into Yosemite. Comp...

Re: Great news on the expansion

So good to see reps and dems holding hands for a change. Let's hope the bill passes. Now for my bad news. The park is already too expansive which means I have a Telescope Peak Snowball's chance in Hades Canyon of exploring even half of the existing Death Valley before I croak like a Surprise Canyon...

Re: Ticks in Death Valley

I know this is an older post, but you can buy tick repellent clothing. It has Permethrin in the material and will repel ticks, mosquitoes, etc. You can also buy Permethrin at REI and Amazon and spray your existing hiking clothes. I have pants and a shirt with it and I sprayed a second set of hiking ...

A little justice for the Ash Meadow Vandals - https://pvtimes.com/news/man-pleads-guilty-in-nevada-for-role-in-devils-hole-vandalism/ An Indian Springs man pleaded guilty Wednesday to violating the Endangered Species Act for his role in a 2016 break-in at a water-filled cavern in Nevada that is home...
