Re: Earthexplorer

I managed to jump through all the hoops with success, but the resolution is terrible at close up. Is there a way to get good close up for hiking route planing?
Thanks

Re: Canyon hike

Where they actually mined the ore. I have heard that word used in that context.

Canyon hike

I am going to be very vague about this canyon for obvious reasons. It has been mentioned a few times so those who have been there will know of it. It is in the southern area of the park, it has easy access from the hwy, there was some mining activity. It turns into a neat twisty canyon , until one c...

Artifacts

Last Nov. just outside the park border,on BLM land I found an old mine site. In the cairn was an old tobacco tin with the original claim document, dated 1947.There are about eight names on the list, and a drawing showing the location. Judging by the type of soil and the number of names,I am convinced...

Desert Hound Mine

I think I have found a relatively easy route to the Desert Hound Mine. It's on my list for March.

The road is very well graded to just past Owl Hole Sp.At the Fort Irwin border. From there it is a little rougher but nothing a truck like yours could not handle. About half way between Owl Lake and Lost Lake is a short hill section with some "small" ruts, but you should not have any problem, just g...

I don't think it was part of the monorail. It is a different layout. I am no expert on narrow gauge rr, but it is similar to many I have seen. The ties are close together. There are nails near both ends of the ties that are bent over which indicates to me they held the rails down. The terrain is all...

Epsom salt mine

Finally made it out there. Drove out on 11-19 had spectacular sunset. Hiked on Sun., cool overcast neat sky, with a 'spot' of rainbow over Needle Peak that lasted for about 45 minutes. Neat area. Nearby I found a man made dyke with what appeared to be the remains of a narrow gauge rr line. Many ties...

Epsom Salt Mine

I am planing a trip to the Epsom Salt Mine some time in Nov. I won't go until the temp is down to no higher than 85. Usually mid to late Nov.
Is anybody interested in going?
