Re: Wildflower potential

We recently spent a week over in Panamint Valley, drove up Goler Wash and down through Butte Valley to Death Valley. We looked for flowers all along the way but they were few and far between. I was really expecting to see some Desert Gold along the West Side road but didn't see anything even down th...

Re: Racetrack Playa has water

No Kauri, these were not done with the HDR setting. I did some post processing but very little, that camera with the polarizer just takes good pictures and the clear air and crisp conditions were contributing factors.

Re: Racetrack Playa has water

Hey DVD, we went first to Eureka Dunes via Crankshaft Junction and spent the night there. https://scontent-dfw5-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/82446676_10207058322612066_6147541197918306304_o.jpg?_nc_cat=109&_nc_ohc=CKhXOkUARmgAQnwLyUgmVu2Y30ZxlkAEgjAQcQQy5JDQRMRryqyuGCDSQ&_nc_ht=scontent-dfw5-1.xx&oh=7e9a...

Yeah, I took that picture from the Lippincott Mine looking east. We went into Saline Valley over Steel Pass and here's a picture of the pass. https://scontent-dfw5-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/82056653_10207058326132154_5907519089475059712_o.jpg?_nc_cat=100&_nc_ohc=JI6WQgyy7O4AQm-EmvJ3cfD0d-YOFNWV2SKvp7M...

Re: Winter weather

Snow levels look to be 4-5000 feet but will rise with warming weather.

Re: Winter weather

Yes, cold and wet this year. My wife and I are holed up in Pahrump waiting for some nicer weather to head back over to the park. It's been quite wet since late November and I can't wait to see how the wildflower bloom is affected this year. Candace pointed me to some info saying the moisture has to ...

Re: Wildflower potential

Thanks for the link to that information Candace, I don't think there was much precip down there in September and October but November saw quite a lot and we were camping down in the south end of the park over the weekend and things are wet and starting to green up some. There was water flowing over ...

Wildflower potential

Seems like the desert is getting quite a bit of wet weather and as I recall this pattern at this time of year can sometimes mean a good wildflower bloom. We were down here in the desert for the winter during the super bloom and it started early. We started seeing lots of flowers in January that year...

Great report of a very eventful trip. Thanks for taking the time to write this up and some pictures would be nice to see when you get some time to post them.

Yes you are quite correct that 60's and 70's are not "elderly" these days, and for the record, I too am in that age group and I don't consider myself elderly either. So there. Maybe define "senior" huh DVD?

Re: Badwater to Dantes Peak and back March 26th

Wow DVD, you are an animal. I'm surprised about the elderly couple coming up behind you after looking at your route on your video, they must have been in better shape than most. By the way, nice selfie but I still wouldn't be able to recognize you if I saw you in DV somewhere. My wife and I spend a ...

Very nice that you got such good footage of those critters, I hardly ever see them that they aren't heading out in the other direction.

Re: The Mystery of the Death Valley Germans - solved

Somebody printed the whole story and left a copy in the Geologist's cabin that my wife and I read one night while staying there. I don't know if it's still there or not but it was fascinating to read it and be in that same place where this happened.
