Re: RIP Death Valley pay phones

It's odd...but the last couple of years, when we make our way south driving past Burns, OR in far SE Oregon, our ATT signs becomes "out of network" through central NV and into DV. No extra charges or notices have been charged. But at Teakettle Junction we got four bars ATT 4G. Everywhere else in the...

Re: November Visit

I/we just returned Monday from a week long trip that was the coldest and windiest I've seen last week of October last three years! 49er's have it good this week! Yes the early morning after the winds, at sunrise(I know, starts real early now) is the best. You might see sidewinder tracts...following ...

Re: Scotty's Castle road repairs in progress

I know that there were pretty healthy taller trees at the castle before the flood. Around the picnic table area. During a tour we took a few years ago it appeared the trees were pretty messed up and and damaged. I didn't get any information from the rangers what they would be doing about replanting ...

Re: Scotty's Castle road repairs in progress

"I think the palms are not native and hence would be removed - like I've seen at the Nevares Cabin and we see with the old line of palms from the DV Inn down the wash gone. But they may be considered to be part of the historic setting of the Castle, which has obviously been deemed worthy of preserva...

Re: Scotty's Castle road repairs in progress

Abbey, sure with it was this October as I'll be back then!

Curious about what sort of replanting you have done. To be similar to what was there before with the palm trees? Was always nice as a bit of a "oasis".

Re: Emigrant, Wildrose, South Park, and Warm Springs Roads

I last did it in a 2003 Tundra RWD. Often each wheel was at an different angle/height. Going 5 mph? And of course further up was slipping in the sandy road conditions. I think you need some advice from one who's been there more recent! Now I believe it was March 2011. We were up to the pool most rec...

Re: Emigrant, Wildrose, South Park, and Warm Springs Roads

When we were in the park last week of March I was posting to their FB page a lot with updates/questions as you were too. They have listed this closed for quite awhile but not as specific as they are now! Rental SUV to the Warm Springs houses with the pool? Yeah, that would be fine. The road was pret...

Re: KC's Outpost, Beatty, Nevada

We enjoyed KC's a couple of springs ago. A big carb out but the food was real good, from the turkey sandwich to the homemade cake! Always wondered about the VFW. The food sounds great but the smoking is a deal breaker. Ah yes...it's Nevada! Generallywe don't eat out during our week long trip as I li...

Re: Keane Wonder Mine

Pool pass is $5. If you buy it in the later afternoon one day it generally can be used until 1 pm the next day.

Also you can get another person in with the pass...no one is checking the pool gate..

And I have other secrets...

Re: Inside DV - report from 1-19-2019

Some are closed because of rain/mud. Some due to the shut down.

Sure wish I was down there this week/next week. Though I'd have a time putting the r pod somewhere. The open campgrounds aren't too desirable.
