Galena Canyon and Westside Road

Well I was able to answer my own question. About a week ago we went to Galena Canyon. No problem with access on the Westside Road. We also spent 6 days exploring the talc mines south of Shoshone while staying on Furnace Creek Wash Road. Great time of year for 4x4 and hiking.

FYI for 49ers

Xanterra says the Ranch pool is open and they will be selling pool passes for those camping in Park Service campgrounds. The only stipulation is that it is very important they cannot drive their RVs over because of a lack of space and the new entrances etc. Cost: $5.00. Info from the Park Service an...

Access to Westside Road and Warm Springs/Galena Canyon

Anyone been out there recently? Last year when we tried the Amargosa was flowing a bit too high to cross.

Speaking of Keane Wonder Mine

I too wish they would open Keane Wonder Mine. We want to hike down off the top. Lots to see up there so I have read and been told.

Sorry I did not clarify David but our trip won't be until the Fall. I just start planing early for our 3 week adventure. I was just curious about the road in general (in good weather).
Thanks

Hunter Mtn from Hwy 190

Anyone been over this road lately? High clearance I imagine. We will continue North from there and make the loop back to Furnace Creek. We have been the southern route but went out over Lippencot. That was a great trip but have not been to the Hunter Mtn area. It looks like a few interesting mines t...

Mojave Geek, We hiked from 190 to Burnt Wagon Point but not through the cornfield. We took a more direct route via the GPS. Salt Creek road was still closed when we took our hike. We found several old roads we crossed over. People used to drive all over out there. I read there used to be some type o...

The last people I read about hiking to Black Water Well and over the top was Shorty Harris and Pete Aguereberry. Pretty sure someone has done it since then. Its supposed to be an Indian Trail

That was Excellent! I'd like to continue that hike and head up Black Water Wash to the spring then over the top to Harrisburg. Anyone done it recently or at least been to the spring? I'm curious about the best camp spots.

MojaveGeek, that particular circle we talked about is on the list of hikes. If you look just north of it there is another. Not perfectly round like the other but it's there. I'll let you know what we find. We will be in the valley after the 26th assuming it does not keep raining.

This all started with word of mouth. I agree regarding the water and feed but thought I follow up anyway. The concept of the Mesquite trees making the circles is interesting. To satisfy my curiosity I'm still likely to take a hike. Thanks for the responses.
