Request: Next person to Panamint City.....

...please take a close up shot of the northwest corner of the smelter stack. This precariously perched brick was in this spot both in April 2017 and May 2019. I'm very curious to know what effect, if any, the earthquakes had on it, assuming no other damage.... April 2017: https://live.staticflickr.c...

Re: 6.4 earthquake in Ridgecrest

This "moderate" line comes pretty close to Panamint City:

I wonder if the smelter stack was affected.

Re: May 10-20, 2019: Ballarat -> Butte Valley -> Panamint Pass loop, plus day hikes

Agree, that these are nice to see in installments. Is that a relay station in the center of the picture...? According to this article, it is a microwave tower owned by AT&T. "The Mormon Peak Tower carries all phone communications from the Furnace Creek area of Death Valley both for the NPS and for ...

Wow, in some ways Porter has better views than Telescope. Thanks for the look!
You definitely get an appreciation from Porter, vs, say, Rogers or Bennett, that the southern upper Panamints are way more rugged than the northern.

3237 and 3238 the crest north of Panamint Pass?
I assume you mean 2327 and 2328 :) Yes....just above where you have to bypass the cliffs. There will be some betters shots of that and the cliff bypass further along.

:) Doing it this way helps me keep track of things better....not well, but better :)

Shots from Porter Peaks. Tons of great views from up there.

Re: Missing Mt. Whitney Hiker: Last Picture from Badwater

Given the location of the body, I'm guessing he was using the Mountaineers Route. I wonder if he had all the proper equipment to do that under the current conditions?! By any route, and under any conditions, that was a very ambitious plan. I suggested that and others countered that he may have beco...

Re: Missing Mt. Whitney Hiker: Last Picture from Badwater

Really a terrible ending, I had been following this story since it broke. Sadly, I think we're going to see situations such as this increasing, especially after reading this article. https://www.outsideonline.com/2330916/mount-whitney-climbing-accidents Personally, I have serious issues with mounta...

Re: Missing Mt. Whitney Hiker: Last Picture from Badwater

Yes, very sad. Hit me kind of hard for it being someone I didn't know. It's been a tough couple weeks in the Sierras. A friend of mine was good friends with this man: https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/davey-johnson-obituary/ I just found this update a minute ago. This one hit me also, even though I...

Rogers Pass to Mormon Peak. Was nice to be able to look back to where the day began at Geologist's cabin, though the cabin itself doesn't really show up in the pics. A 5500 ft vertical gain day.

South end of the crest, which I define as 2003-T on the topos, to Rogers Pass. https://www.flickr.com/photos/168127823@N04/albums/72157709099011588 There are great views along the way, including some uncommon ways of seeing the southern Panamint peaks https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48068893743_...

Around the east side of Striped Butte and back up to the crest: https://www.flickr.com/photos/168127823@N04/albums/72157708995025051 I also made an album (of the same pictures in the other albums) illustrating the circuit around Striped Butte. https://www.flickr.com/photos/168127823@N04/albums/72157...
