The tops of the two false summits (at least, where they visually appear to be from the summit) and the base of the gap between them.

Threading The Needle at Telescope Peak
In going through my pictures, I discovered a fact that I find quite astounding, though that is likely because I am a total nerd. As most of us know, Telescope has 2 false summits which block the view of the summit for most of the Telescope Peak Trail. They are both about 11,000 ft, while the 11,049 ...

Re: Back At Ya!
This one is Telescope and Rogers. It is interesting how the view between them threads the needle between the two false summits:

Re: Great news on the expansion
It's a microcosm of the whole world....way too much to ever see or do everything, so you have to narrow your focus. Some want to know a little about as many things as possible. Some want to know everything about something. Most of us are somewhere in between, with a few things we want to know tons a...

Back At Ya!
I have always liked looking and pairs of pictures that could seem to be taken with the photographers looking back at each other. Here are two panoramas between Telescope and Dante's View. If you have shots along this line, please share here! https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7867/40044344383_b82aa308a9...

Re: April 19-23: Badwater -> Telescope -> Badwater
I am sure that whatever is ideal depends on how you want to do it. If you want to run it like she did, it's probably best to be lean. For camping, it probably helps to be a little bulkier (though not overweight) so that the amount of weight you need to carry isn't too high a % of body weight. (I am ...

Re: April 19-23: Badwater -> Telescope -> Badwater
Looks like she did, in fact, go to Hanaupah Spring and up the side of the South Fork Ridge as I did. So, same route as mine, minus crossing the valley.

Re: April 19-23: Badwater -> Telescope -> Badwater
Thanks, and thanks for letting me know about this! Wow, that's impressive. She started at Shorty's Well, so she didn't cross the valley. She took all her water with her, which means she probably went straight up and over the South Fork ridge, rather than going up to Hanaupah Spring and up the side o...

Salt Pan Variation
I was going back through pictures from 2015 and noted the contrast between the salt visible from Dante's in April vs. November. The valley was very brown in April and very white in November, due to rains in October. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10218288304949832&type=1&l=c2fdb35ceb (no ...

Re: Telescope Peak from Panamint Dunes - Valley
Looks great! I definitely need to get back out there in an afternoon to take advantage of the western sun. First time I went was cloudy and in the middle of the day, while the second time was early morning.

Re: Has anyone hiked across DV at Badwater?
Looking through my pictures, I never encountered any DGC-type formations. Sometimes the surface was a little rough but nothing like DGC. Here are a few I took of the DGC I encountered, plus the water channel through it. I also marked in one of them where one can go around the vegetation with only a...

Re: Keane Wonder Mine
Thank you - I don't use Facebook and don't have an account there, so this was very helpful to me. Now my son has texted saying they've had three days of rain in Ridgecrest. I'm wondering if Lake Manly is back at Badwater. Should I bring the inflatable kayak just in case? Today's satellite photo sho...

Re: Has anyone hiked across DV at Badwater?
Wow, that is an interesting story. It looks from the map that Norman started from Badwater and walked to the "official" low point, and just kept on walking straight until he reached the west side vegetation. Not sure how bad the DGC is along that trajectory.

Re: Has anyone hiked across DV at Badwater?
Another thing you might do, since you've gone that far anyway, is go roughly 3/4 mile up Hanaupah Canyon Road to sea level and look back out across the valley.
