Re: Telescope Pk

Candace, this is how I get to what I am looking for: 1. Login 2. Type Telescope Peak in the Address/Place field and click Show. 3. Click Telescope Peak, California, USA 4. Enter your date range and click Data Sets 5. Click the plus next to Landsat 6. Click the plus next to Landsat Collection 1 Level...

Re: Telescope Pk

Hi Candace....I know we discussed this elsewhere, but including it here in case others are also interested: https://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/ That is the site I use to get good images, though there generally is only one per week, and you have to create an account and figure out how to navigate to see ...

Re: Salt Spires Mud Cracks Midvalley but no salt pools

What's it like in the wind at 125 degrees? I've been there at 120, but not windy. I imagine the heat would be almost unbearable in the wind.

Those pipes.....are they there to save the road from floods? (You may have answered that in the video, but i was watching without sound)

Nice! I headed that direction from the road in 2016. I didn't go as far, but I definitely found it very scenic.

Re: May 2018 trip

Superb photography. The land and atmosphere cooperated with you well. I believe the Hunter cabin is shown on topo maps, but don’t have one to check presently. Looking at Google Maps in satellite view, find Hunter Spring and the cabin shows plainly a stone’s throw northwest. Thanks! But now I am rea...

Re: May 2018 trip

Looks like you had a great time and got lots of nice shots! Where is the cabin? I'd like to visit that spot next time I'm on Hunter Mountain.

Re: Steve Hall's updated Devils Golf course exploration

Nice video, DVD! Makes it easy to see the approximate path over. If you've never been able to find the deeper pools with the pupfish, the pools can be fairly clearly seen on Google Earth, from which you can grab the GPS coordinates. I only got to see one area with the fish, but from Steve's report, ...

Re: Steve Hall's updated Devils Golf course exploration

How was the hike across from Furnace Creek to the Cottonball Marsh--specifically, in terms of soft mud and DGC? My one trip there was from the Salt Creek parking lot, and I took a westerly route specfically to avoid soft mud such as Steve described in his original report.

Re: Jeep Rental in Death Valley in JULY

I reserved a Wrangler in Las Vegas a few years ago, but when I got there, they gave me a 2WD Liberty...."Oh, we sold all our Wranglers".

"You know how to take the reservation; you just don't know how to HOLD the reservation."

Re: Racetrack Playa, Ubehebe Crater & Artist's Palette Photography adventure

Oh, I get it ... it's a BIG park. I've been there about .. 18 times? And I still haven't seen it all. Eureka Valley contains the most amazing dunes in the entire park (my opinion). Certainly the tallest, and I'm betting the most extensive? I'm pretty sure Mesquite Flat covers more land, so I'd say ...

Re: Telescope Pk

To my knowledge, there is no weather data coming from Rogers Peak. I think the forecasts are done by computer model based on data from other places. Stuff on top of Rogers probably breaks the wind pretty well in spots, also, but I would think you'd prefer a more natural area. You should have no prob...

Re: Telescope Pk

Have not camped at the summit. I have camped at Arcane Meadows for a lunar eclipse and at a nice spot further along the trail at about 9500 ft. This spot was a great shield from the wind, as dust storms raged in both valleys, and is flat and smooth. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1021633152...
