Re: May 10-20, 2019: Ballarat -> Butte Valley -> Panamint Pass loop, plus day hikes

Rogers Pass to Mormon Peak. Was nice to be able to look back to where the day began at Geologist's cabin, though the cabin itself doesn't really show up in the pics. A 5500 ft vertical gain day.

South end of the crest, which I define as 2003-T on the topos, to Rogers Pass. https://www.flickr.com/photos/168127823@N04/albums/72157709099011588 There are great views along the way, including some uncommon ways of seeing the southern Panamint peaks https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48068893743_...

Re: October Trip Planning

Wow, I thought I was up to a lot of trips for someone who has to fly in (planning a brief #14, since 2008) in August.

Around the east side of Striped Butte and back up to the crest: https://www.flickr.com/photos/168127823@N04/albums/72157708995025051 I also made an album (of the same pictures in the other albums) illustrating the circuit around Striped Butte. https://www.flickr.com/photos/168127823@N04/albums/72157...

Re: May 10-20, 2019: Ballarat -> Butte Valley -> Panamint Pass loop, plus day hikes

So I gather you liked the views of Striped Butte :) Nice from those angles I must say. :) There are a few things in the park that I given extra attention photographically--especially in wanting to see them from as many perspectives as possible--Telescope Peak, the Panamint City smelter stack, 1 par...

Down to Butte Valley and around the west side of Striped Butte and on to Geologist's cabin. This has a lot of Striped Butte shots. https://www.flickr.com/photos/168127823@N04/albums/72157708968271681 Here is a lower res version of one of the better ones: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/480166705...

Re: Pleasant Canyon Road conditions?

David replied on the other site, fairly recently it was in standard condition. Hopefully it stays that way through May. I've decided the only way I'll get to Sentinel Peak is by climbing Porter again then traversing to Sentinel, LOL. Hi Candace....did you get to do Sentinel? How did you find...

Re: Dispersed Camping December

Big question is, how warm do you want to be? December is the coldest time of year, unlike most of the country where January is. Harry Wade road gives you tons of places, including near (but not "at") Saratoga Springs, or the Ibex Dunes. Racetrack Valley Road, from 2 miles down it to before Teakettle...

Great report! Looking forward to some Striped Butte pics if you have any. Half the fun of making a mistake is not realizing it, and even when realizing it, not admitting it to yourself. :) Yes! lots of Striped Butte coming up. Re: May 10-20, 2019: Ballarat -> Butte Valley -> Panamint Pass loop, plus day hikes

Nicer weather. Scenic area, never been up in there. What's the peak you took a bunch of pix of? Must have been in the direction you were heading and you were wondering about the snow! Yes, a great weather day. The peak was actually behind me as I was ascending the Pleasant/Middle Park divide. So, I...

I call this album "The Misty Mountains" (Lord of the Rings reference) as I watched the fog over the Pleasant/Happy ridge:
