Re: Telescope Pk

Hey thanks Brian. I was trying to remember where exactly the wind breaking type spots were. Wind is biggest concern to me. Been up there when its windy... Isn't there something near the radio tower that's good cover from wind also? Also, when I search for telescope peak weather conditions I assume t...

Re: Telescope Pk

Did you camp on summit? Would like to know how it felt. Will be up there soon, might try it.

Re: Telescope Pk

Please post report. Have considered doing this or camping somewhere before the saddle. I've seen evidence of what look like campsites along the trail, but have never researched any trip reports. Permits would not be required for this right?

Re: Hiking Options in June Heat

I see. Obviously I'm not from around here. Looking at some options around that side of park, even if not within DV proper. I'll have a day and a half worth of time.

Re: Hiking Options in June Heat

Great. The temps look like 70's/80's at night but that can be deceiving I'm sure.

Re: Hiking Options in June Heat

You can definitely hike out into the valley at night. You can reach the central marker within an hour and a half. If you try to go all the way across, you will enounter Devil's Golf Course. Cool, I've been out there couple times late, just not this time of year. So what is it like out there late Ma...

Re: Hiking Options in June Heat

How is Keynot this time of year? Looking around I don't see a "recommended" season. Summitpost doesn't say anything about early June. Looks fun.

Re: Hiking Options in June Heat

Info like this is why I came here. Good idea, I might look around southern Sierra Nevada range. I like driving around there anyway.

Hiking Options in June Heat

Love Death Valley. I've hiked in DV many times but mostly fall/winter/early spring. I'm coming in about a week and will be hiking Telescope Peak for a 3rd time. Would like to fit another adventure in while I'm there and looking for some options, maybe another peak. Is it too hot for Pyramid Peak? Wo...

Can these structures be hiked to? Seems I remember hiking in Titus Canyon several years ago but not too deep.

A 40 foot dropoff? I'm planning on going up that way soon. Will probably hike from Thorndike to Telescope Peak if it's clear enough to not need special gear. Last time I did TP was in October a few years ago, the snow posed no problem then.

Well, that's not good. We'd probably be there mid April. Is this a late snow or about normal?

Telescope Peak in Mid April

How snowy is it up there around mid April normally? Can hikers get by without special gear? Will be hiking from Mahogany Flats or maybe Kilns. I'm not used to estimating based off current snowfall so I can't really tell by looking at current levels. Also, any word on the road between Emigrant Pass c...

Hey Gowergulch42, are you speaking from experience from a recent trip? When did you go?

I remember last time I did it in late September/October timeframe there was patchy snow but nothing intimidating at all.
