Re: Keane Wonder Mine

You don't have your own shower system? I always travel with a solar shower bag and in the summer months (Owens Valley/Inyos/Whites) I made one of those black plumbing pipe showers that goes on my rig. I've never used the Furnace Creek pool/shower but have known about it. I have used the showers at ...

Re: Keane Wonder Mine

A few times in the past, we have gone to the registration desk at the Ranch and bought a pool pass for $10. There are showers at the pool. I don't know if they still do this after the renovations. Whaaaaaa ..... that could be a huge game changer for me. I usually bail after a week because I've been...

Re: Keane Wonder Mine

I've never stayed at any of the places in Death Valley, or even any of the campgrounds, but dang if there haven't been a few times where I'd have gladly forked over $99 (+fees, taxes, etc.) for a shower and a pool. Also like the sound of emptier than usual ... enjoy!

Oh, right, mud. Sorry & thanks for the corrections, everyone. I've got Guv Shutdown on the mind and didn't even consider actual road conditions for West Side Road!

Re: Inside DV - report from 1-19-2019

Fuddddgggee .... Westside Road is closed? I was hoping to re-visit some hikes in those canyons off the Westside Road in a month or so. Guess I can spend more time in the Owlshead area if necessary. Trying to stay warm and in lower elevations. Nice photo of Telescope, hope you've got a clear evening ...

Re: Park Closure

The longer this stretches on the more I wish that they'd just shut the Parks down completely and focus on making sure everything stays undamaged. Relying on volunteers to clean up after Park visitors that can't be bothered to take care of their own sh!t (literally) isn't reasonable. The backlog of w...

Re: Park Closure

Even though they don't list Wildrose (or Eureka Dunes, or Homestake, or Saline Valley hot springs), I would guess it is open, and that it is only not listed because there are no flush toilets. One flush toilet they don't mention: The Panamint City Hilton....guessing it is still in operation :) Yeah...

Re: Park Closure

Some of the toilets ... this part is sketchy as all get out: The following campgrounds are open, but without restrooms. Please pack out all human waste. No reservations services are in place at any of these campgrounds. These campgrounds will remain open unless there is a life/safety risk. Furnace C...

The temperature sign at the Visitor's Center isn't accurate ... or where they take official readings.

Actually, here's another link I never knew about ... https://www.nps.gov/deva/learn/news/hot ... t-june.htm

Re: Thirteen days in the Sahara

What ... a ... trip. I always enjoy checking out your photos & trip reports. Just finished the first day by day report and plan on tackling the second motorbike one once I brew up another cup of coffee. I laughed multiple times while reading the first one and really wish that I'd been more diligent ...

Re: Death Valley National Park; Bristlecones and Summit Camps Nov 4-7, 2018

Checked out both sets of photos on Flickr -- nice shots, thanks for sharing. Don't know that I'd ever spend the night on Telescope (a 16-mile roundtrip hike sounds more my speed), but you definitely got some great sunset and sunrise photos for your resilience!

Re: Edmunds tests Honda Ridgeliner in DV

Yeah, there certainly seems to be a general speed at which a washboarded road rides the best. Depends on the road and the vehicle, both of which have a ton of different factors that come into play. As with most roads, driving at the speed you feel most comfortable and in control is the best option. ...
