Re: Edmunds tests Honda Ridgeliner in DV

Yeah, there certainly seems to be a general speed at which a washboarded road rides the best. Depends on the road and the vehicle, both of which have a ton of different factors that come into play. As with most roads, driving at the speed you feel most comfortable and in control is the best option. ...

Re: Edmunds tests Honda Ridgeliner in DV

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Airing down street tires is not advisable and will lead to sidewall failure. Be careful. Would have been nice if they said how fast they were driving at first before airing down and driving slower. Didn't look that fast, but the video participants also did...

Re: Caching supplies east of Saline Valley Area

Phew ... you'd have to do a lot of research on springs, especially water flow / seasons, and mineral content, if you're linking multiple spots together. Lot of risks there with water that literally could turn life or death on you. And based upon what I saw at Owl Hole Springs, sure there's water the...

Re: Caching supplies east of Saline Valley Area

Never stashed food before ... when I'm backpacking it's all dehydrated & lightweight enough that there's always room in the pack. For me the killer is water (especially in Death Valley) in which case I've personally used MSR Dromedary Bags -- https://www.msrgear.com/dromedary-bags -- to leave water ...

Computers, aren't they neat?

So those URLs you're pasting are correct ... but they need to be in-between [ img ] tags ...

What you'd type out is ...

https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4578/23942062847_3b507e9aa5_k.jpg Yeah ... the link Flickr gives you to "share" isn't the image address when I tried. I ended up right-clicking on the image and going with "Inspect Element" in my browser, Safari. From there I found the direct image link in "Resources" ...

Re: Marble Bath

Been there within the past year and there was a bee hive at the top of the chute. Finding it is more than half the fun. I have discussed this area with other people whom I know that have found it. The general consensus is that there is a strange feeling in the area. One is welcome to visit but not ...

Crushed those photos ... a lot of location overlaps with my trip in March, except here's your trip report & photos ... and where are mine?

Thanks for taking the time to share your adventures with us and glad your trip worked out so well.

Re: April 19-23: Badwater -> Telescope -> Badwater

Great story, Brian. Thanks for sharing with us and happy that you finally made it to the top. I can relate to the memory of your father and it definitely tugged some heart strings. Only part I didn't like was the end of the story with the red-eye flight straight to work! Get some rest, you deserve it.

Re: Hiking Death Valley - Second Edition

It's interesting....only one person per year on average dies in DV to heat. The other death per year is due to car accident. In Yosemite many people die from drowning, falling off cliffs, falling rock. 12-15 per year. Even taking into visitation ratios DV's deaths per year are very low. Good call &...

Re: Hiking Death Valley - Second Edition

Sidewinder Canyon is not "extremely difficult." The park service continues their tradition of discouraging the ordinary tourists from doing stuff that would get the tourists in trouble. The ordinary tourist is, sadly, ill-prepared for most outdoor excursions in my experience ... if 50% of your visi...

Nice captures! I've always had poor luck spotting Bighorns in the Park ... just once in twelve trips.
