Re: Ticks in Death Valley

I climbed Panamint Butte from the Big 4 mine. Up closer to the summit, two or three times I found a tick walking up the front of my pants. Well, I'm "ticked off" that you got to summit Panamint Butte and I did not. I considered hiking past Lemoigne Mine to Panamint Butte but wisely chose not to due...

Re: Emigrant, Wildrose, South Park, and Warm Springs Roads

This being the case, I almost prefer starting in Butte Valley over Mahogany Flat. Brian, what about driving up Johnson Canyon to Wilson Springs, parking, hiking up to Hungry Bill's and beyond clear up to the Panamint Pass which would give you access the entire ridgeline from Telescope to Manly? I'v...

Re: Above Chimney Fall In The Funeral Slot

Very nice! I'm especially glad the colorful areas showed up well for your video and photos. When we visited that area, the colors were much more vivid in the evening and were more washed out in mid-day. I think estimating 60 feet for the height of that dry fall might be a bit much, though. If we're...

Re: All aboard The Blue Mountain Express

Blue Mountain is there, but they simply have it listed as 2750' If you join, be sure to check out the Forum. I created a thread in there about Blue Mountain, and included links to your reports here. Candace, thanks for clarifying that "2750" is in fact, Blue Mountain. I was wondering why it was not...

Above Chimney Fall In The Funeral Slot

A rare peek into the half-mile section of Upper Funeral Slot Canyon above the 60-foot Chimney Fall. Access by dropping down into the head of the canyon where a multicolored and massive fault opens up the way. Exit just upstream a hundred yards from the impassable Chimney Fall by scrambling through a...

Lower King Midas & over north ridge into Keane Wonder

Kudos to our very own Mojave Geek for reminding me that King Midas could be a great hike. I foolishly thought I might be able to find a bypass to the 22 foot dry fall laying hundreds of feet below the King Midas Mine Works. I did manage to scramble above the dry fall on the south ridge but got stopp...

Jean Lemoigne Songbird Serenade Centennial

The famously friendly French miner, Jean Lemoigne died one hundred years ago in 1919 at the age of 62. As a memorial to this respected gentleman, I honored Jean with a memorial hike the end of March 2019 from Emigrant to his miner's cabin up the canyon now named for him. A pristine spring day with f...

Re: Hello from Death Valley - Thursday Night 3-28

I assume you did Ashford and Desert Hound in the same day? DId you drive over from PSR and climb both those peaks in the same day? If so, awesome! We went out the side canyon behind the mine camp. As I said, we were not moving very fast that day. Coincidentally, I just posted my video trip report o...

Ashford & Desert Hound Peaks

The last week of March I circled up to Ashford and Desert Hound Peaks and back around via Scotty's Canyon into a lovely sundog sunset over Wingate Wash and Warm Springs Canyon. Enjoy a rare cloud framed close-up of Panamint Pass from the Black Mountains. Music by Longzijun. On a lark, I scrambled st...

Winds gusting to 45 MPH shake the cameras of photographers on the ridges of Dante's View and Zabriskie Point during a March 2019 sunset.

Re: All aboard The Blue Mountain Express

Here's a link to the list, but I'm not sure if it's visible to non-members: Wow Candace, what a resource for hikers and scramblers and is user-friendly. I did not see Blue Mountain listed unless it's what the list refers to as Artist Palette Peak? I will most likely join up to the list and donate t...

Lake Manly Salt Snakes & Dragons

March 2019 Lake Manly is reduced to a three-acre pond of crystal clear salt water six inches deep. Explore the surface and underwater along with the perimeter's salt snakes, salt dragons, mud cracks, and mudflows near the mouth of Hades Canyon and Artist's Drive in Death Valley National Park. California Condor On The Colorado Close-up

What luck to come across a California Condor perched high above the Colorado River in Northern Arizona as it soared into the canyon below. April 2019 on a lovely spring afternoon. The condors are making a successful comeback!
