Re: November Visit

do the foot tracks usually clear out overnight with winds Totally depends on the weather. I've been out there on the dunes in gale-force winds where my own footprints disappeared rapidly and out again where the dunes are covered with prints because the wind has not blown for several days. So good l...

Re: Ok you chickens, time to strip down at the hot springs!

I'll tell you how to find the real marble bath. Thanks, MG for the reply and offer to help. I'm aware of the Real Marble Bath and have seen several images online of folks "bathing in marbles". By the time I pass through I do hope it's still there and not vandalized or flooded out. Maybe sometime in...

Re: -45 degrees F in October in Utah...wondering....

Does DVNP have any areas where this sort of thing could occur--a large temp difference within a short distance and not much elevation change? Good catch Brian, wondering if true but in the opposite temperature direction of heat. One would assume Badwater is always the hottest, but maybe there is a ...

We couldn't really see much change yet from the new ownership.
I really appreciate your detailed update to this thread. Now Cerro Gordo is on my DVNP bucket list.

Re: Across Owens Lake

Way cool so I'm going to have to try this next time I'm in Lone Pine, so thanks.

Is the road to Cerro Gordo open to the public? I think it's now privately owned and is being developed?

Lip Smacking Lizard's Munchies

This collared lizard was caught in the act of swallowing another lizard head first. Talk about desert munchies!

Re: A jet crashes in the DV area, several onlookers injured

FWIW when I was eating at PSR last week I overheard some of the staff talking about the crash and saying that at this point aircraft are still not flying down Rainbow Canyon. Thanks for the update. I have mixed feelings about the jets zooming down Rainbow Canyon. They're exciting to watch and hear ...

Wind Farm West of Great Basin National Park

During my last visit to Great Basin National Park during 2016, I noticed a wind farm sprawled just below and west of the park in Spring Valley. Returning home from a Labor Day Weekend visit to Death Valley 2019 I stopped by The Spring Valley Wind Farm for a peek which is just off of Highway 50, The ...

Re: No Name Nub 2nd Fun Filled Fail

We went up the chute seen in the center of your photo from Borax Benchmark. Kauri, thanks for the reply and tip. Just by default, I was assuming the route you described was my last and only option because of the east and north faces being too treacherous for my scrambling skills. I'm really excited...

No Name Nub 2nd Fun Filled Fail

My second failed attempt to scale "No Name Nub" just northwest of The Hole In The Wall in Death Valley National Park now goes down in video history. I was stopped due to impassable cliffs on the north face but the afternoon light and panoramas made it all worthwhile. To save time on the return I fol...

Methuselah Grove Bristlecones CA

Stroll the Methuselah Grove loop trail among the oldest living trees in the world located high up in the White Mountains of California on Labor Day Weekend 2019. Views of the Sierra Nevada, Inyo Mountains, Telescope Peak, and northern Death Valley are on the horizons.

Re: November Visit

Some of the spots are even better to photograph with people in them to get a little perspective. Agreed and this is precisely why I love the zooming in on the elderly man hiking down the southwest face of the Manly Beacon in the video - perspective on several levels. Photographing visitor's reactio...

Ok you chickens, time to strip down at the hot springs!

Sure am wishing I was a wealthy and skilled bush pilot right now so I could take advantage of this remote spot in Death Valley. The drive out there really is fun though. I've been there from Hunter Mountain, Inyo Mountains, and Lippincott Pass but not from Eureka through Steele Pass. That's on the b...

mercury shooting out of the top of the long glass thermometer :) Well, MojaveGeek please don't rule this out completely because I understand that the display in front of the VC is connected to the official thermometer somewhere in the back of the VC. So who knows, maybe there is now a toxic spill o...
