Re: August 17-24: White-Whitney-10460 (and, oh yeah, Bald)

San Gorgonio can be seen both from Whitney (190 miles) and from Telescope (143 miles). Brian, thanks so much for this tip. I wish I knew this before I summited Whitney and Telescope five years ago for the first time. On top of Whitney I never dreamed San Gorgonio could be visible because the air wa...

Toted my telescope atop Telescope Peak

I may be the first and dumbest person to ever pack a real telescope to the summit of Telescope Peak. I got this hairbrained idea about a year ago so this past Labor Day Weekend I made it happen. The peak was supposedly named Telescope because of a visitor "needing to use a telescope to the see the p...

It's fixed for me now, thank you!
FYI and for what it's worth - I've not experienced any PM problems and they are currently working just fine.

On a clear day
I'll use the excuse it was gray, cloudy and rainy for my missing your spot. :) I hope to get it right the next time.

Re: May 10-20, 2019: Ballarat -> Butte Valley -> Panamint Pass loop, plus day hikes

I want to be able to see them as long as I can see." I still go back once in a while during the winter and review my video collection. Sure brings back those wonderful memories. BTW I was on top of Telescope Peak over Labor Day (cold and rainy) and I was disappointed at my inability to spot that Ma...

Re: May 10-20, 2019: Ballarat -> Butte Valley -> Panamint Pass loop, plus day hikes

I love viewing your images so thanks for posting them. I keep forgetting how truly expansive DV is. My favorite shots of yours were of The Stipped Butte, The Panamint Smoke Stack, and the one where you labeled all of the peaks along the Panamint Ridge Line. Time in DV is time well spent and thanks a...

Re: Missing the heat in DV this summer

Everyone was saying what an unusually cool summer it had been, especially after last year's record breakers. One theory about the cooler temps is that we are supposedly heading into a Grand Solar Minimum? BTW - I've given up on my hopes to be in DV when the 134-degree mark is broken. I don't think ...

My visit to crash site Sunday morning 9-1-2019

I drove from Lone Pine via Darwin and east on Highway 190 early morning Sunday over Labor Day weekend and stopped to pay respects to the Navy pilot who lost his life in the July 31, 2019 crash. I was the only one at the location for nearly fifteen minutes. I hope to not have failed to represent my s...

Re: Downtown Darwin Dog Days

The best part, in my humble opinion, is the two friendly canines. I love Darwin because of its eccentricity. I've enjoyed a sunset and a sunrise there. I felt lucky to have the two official town four-legged greeters welcome me, especially the little white one who struck such a diva pose right in th...

Downtown Darwin Dog Days

Darwin, California on September 1, 2019, while photographing the sunrise from downtown the canine crew ran out to inform me that I was in their territory. The morning rays reveal how colorful this tiny community just outside of Death Valley National Park is and that one resident felt no obligation t...

Bonnie Claire Highway repair update

Highway 267 aka Bonnie Claire Highway to Scotty's Castle was flooded over on October 18, 2015. Repairs to the highway commenced in 2019. Here are scenes taken on September 5, 2019, of the upper/eastern portion of the highway repairs taken first from the south side and then the north side of the high...

Sadly, this was not the helicopter ride he was planning on. I bet after a few days in that Death Valley heat the poor fella's body did not weigh much due to desiccation. Thanks for posting that report.

Another hiker dies in DV - how'd we miss this one?

I did a forum search for this man, found nothing so am assuming we missed the news of his death. Neil Malloch, San Francisco volunteer historian, found dead in Death Valley https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/Neil-Malloch-85-San-Francisco-volunteer-14060066.php Some notes from the article: "...
