Re: Down a fantastic Salt Funnel to Death Valley underworld

This is the area sometimes known as Gnome's Workshop? Did you see the long linear rock alignment near where the power line crosses? Or maybe you were in a different spot. The formations are very cool but I though you were actually going to somehow lower a lens into the salt funnel :) I'm embarrasse...

Great news on the expansion

So good to see reps and dems holding hands for a change. Let's hope the bill passes. Now for my bad news. The park is already too expansive which means I have a Telescope Peak Snowball's chance in Hades Canyon of exploring even half of the existing Death Valley before I croak like a Surprise Canyon ...

Nevares Peak Circumbendibus

A day exploring from The Ranch at Death Valley east over The Coleman Hills, skirting west of The Funeral Slot Canyon, crossing The Furnace Creek Fault, turning around at the saddle between Winters Peak and Nevares Peak near vintage mining claims, down to the Gnome's Workshop and Salt Springs, across...

Re: April 19-23: Badwater -> Telescope -> Badwater

So, same route as mine, minus crossing the valley. There must be an ideal body size/weight ration/scale that is optimal for this exertion? Too heavy or long and you over expend energy and too light/short you just don't have the stamina. Thankfully there is plenty of wiggle room for imperfect bodies...

Re: Red Amphitheater Rhapsody

... you may be interested in seeing on a future trip. Thank you Kauri and yes, exploring this area tweaked my curiosity about what other surprises are in the surrounding areas. I'm finding so much to explore within ten miles of the Furnace Creek Visitor's Center that I may never make it out to the ...

Red Amphitheater Rhapsody

A January 2019 attempt to hike to The Red Amphitheater from The Navel Spring water storage works via Hole in the Wall turned into a roundabout rhapsody that afforded spectacular views, curious geology, water pockets, dry falls, and a tricky descent down to Highway 190 at the eastern park boundary. E...

Highway 190 Winter Sunset Stroll

Stroll from Cow Creek at sunset along Highway 190 past Mustard Canyon and Harmony Borax all the way to The Ranch at Furnace Creek on a lovely January 2019 evening. You may be surprised at all there is to see and hear. Some of my best times in the park are totally unscripted and unplanned. https://yo...

FYI - there are two Reddit communities for DV

One is this one - r/deathvalley which has about 126 subscribers and Another one is: r/DeathValleyNP which has 682 subscribers so I don't know if the smaller one needs to be joined with the larger one? I have no idea if any of us here at death-valley.net help moderate those two reddits? I currently d...

Departing Death Valley Airport - take off

Prior to the full moon eclipse January 2019 I finally lucked out and videoed a private plane taking off from the Death Valley Airport with a sunset over the Panamints as a background.

The Mystery of the Death Valley Germans - solved

Being a newby around these here parts I had not heard about "the missing Germans a few decades back. This video appears to be a good concise documentary with the solution at the end. In 1996, four Germans tourists disappeared in the Death Valley National Park. Leaving behind only their car, they see...

Brian, I stumbled across this while researching something else. I wonder if she took a route similar to yours? I remain totally impressed by both of your efforts!

Re: A grand piano?

Anyone know what was going on? No, but I so wish I'd have seen this and taken some video shots to share. The effort to get a grand piano out there and back is impressive. I google searched "grand piano death valley" but got no results for this fellow's project. Thanks for taking note. You might ask...
