Re: May 12-19, Telescope and Panamint City

Good info, thanks! For Panamint, we were planning to backpack in with tents. We might "hang out" in a cabin if one is available, but probably try not to stir up dust, and still sleep outside. We're from Indiana so there's always some adjusting to hiking in actual mountains versus hills! Depending on...

May 12-19, Telescope and Panamint City

Was planning to visit May 12-19 for a few higher elevation places...backpack into Panamint City 13th, hike out the 16th and head to Mahogany Flat, then day hike telescope on the 17th. Not sure if the snow will be gone on the trail by then or not? Figured we would do what we could and see how it goes...

Thanks. Yeah the road to Mohagany Flat was open but we did not go up there. It was already chilly at the charcoal kilns, too cold up there for my blood. But I would like to go back in summer to hike Telescope Peak and camp up there, I'm sure it's much more comfortable then. A camper or shell would b...

I haven't tried many of these apps. I have stuck with the first one that was suggested to me. It is called "iHikeGPS" and is for iOS, not sure if there is an Android version or not. I would recommend checking it out for a basic gps topo map app. I think it cost 3 or 4 dollars to buy, and allows unli...

Yeah, fuel and maybe lunch in Stovepipe Wells and Panamint Springs :) I saw Wildrose is supposed to have water too. I can normally go 350 miles on a tank, so even in 4wd, I should be good on fuel if I top off along the route. Thanks for the camping info. I did read about the site on the hilltop and ...

Early April Trip

I've used this site for some good info in the past so thought I would post my trip plan in case anyone was going to be in the area. My wife and I are driving from Indiana and planning to spend April 3-12 in DVNP. I have a Chevy Colorado 4x4 with LT tires, full size spare, compressor, tools, etc so I...
