Re: 6.4 earthquake in Ridgecrest

Last year I talked my son in Ridgecrest into keeping large bottles of water in his freezer, so I could use them when I camp in Death Valley. One of my arguments was that if he ever had a power outage, he could use the frozen water to save his refrigerated food. Yesterday he texted me "Thank you."

Have you lost your mind

in Death Valley? If so, I think I found it.

(just seeing if I can do this without my son looking over my shoulder)

The "cave"

It's natural, but it's not deep, which is why I put cave in quotes. I'm not sure what to call it - it's something between and arch and a cave, maybe? Thank you for the encouragement on trip reports.

Okay, my son walked me through this process using Flickr. This one previewed so we will try posting it. Thanks for all the help!

Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Texas

I had a free week in April for travel, which wasn't enough to go to Death Valley unfortunately. South Dakota looked too cold, so I visited Palo Duro, which was on my list of places to return to someday (I had been there for an afternoon once). It's about a 12 hour drive for me, so I went there on Su...

Re: Third canyon south of Monarch

Thank you very much - I enjoy your pictures, identifications, and narratives. Great trip reports and a wonderful antidote to cold rainy day in the midwest (I'm just glad it's rain and not snow yet again).

Some guidance maybe?

I've been trying to get a picture to show here in order to post a trip report, but without any luck. I am not very computer-savvy and don't have a lot of the equipment others have; for example, no smart phone to take pictures. I'm using a digital Lumix camera that stores pictures on an SD/HC card. I...

Wow, you got some great footage - thanks for sharing it. By the way, why is it "the Jedi Transition"?

A grand piano?

On our way to Sidewinder this morning, about ten miles south of 190 on Badwater road, there was a gentleman on the west side sitting at a grand piano. Yes, on the shoulder of the road! When we returned seven hours later, he was still there. He said he was playing music from sunrise to sunset, but it...

Re: Keane Wonder Mine

Arrived and checked in at the ranch (whatever you call it). The parking lot looks emptier than usual; maybe that's why the desk clerk offered to extend my stay at $99 a night. I'm considering it. Another person at the pool said they took the offer, but that it's only if you already have a reserved s...

Re: Keane Wonder Mine

Thank you - I don't use Facebook and don't have an account there, so this was very helpful to me. Now my son has texted saying they've had three days of rain in Ridgecrest. I'm wondering if Lake Manly is back at Badwater. Should I bring the inflatable kayak just in case?

Keane Wonder Mine

Hello all - woke up this morning in Nebraska to another inch of snow. Cheered myself up with the fact that I'm planning to go back to DV next weekend (24-27). I'm staying at the Oasis ranch, since the campgrounds seem out of the picture, but I was wondering about the parking lots at Keane Wonder Min...
