Saratoga spring, fall canyon, and sidewinder canyon 2/28-3/2

So Thursday morning Feb 28 we left Orange County and headed up to Saratoga Spring to start our Death Valley trip. Got to the Spring and hiked to Saratoga mine. It was a nice hike, and we saw the remnants of the mine and the old structures. Didn't have much time, or we would have liked to check out t...

Re: KC's Outpost, Beatty, Nevada

Ya, the smoke part sucks......but when it's the best food in town, it's a lot easier to try and ignore it!

Re: KC's Outpost, Beatty, Nevada

Smoking is allowed, it's a bar as well. The menu had pulled chicken sandwiches, burgers, French dip, cheasesteak, mussels, salad, and a lot more that I can't remember. I was pretty surprised at the diversity of what was offered. I'm not a big fan of smoke where I'm eating either, but the food made i...

Re: KC's Outpost, Beatty, Nevada

There aren't that many places in Beatty to eat. We have been going there for years. It will be missed. I've never been to KC's, but I did eat at Sourdough this week. I hesitate to say anything negative about a local restaurant in Beatty since the options are so few and any warm meal is appreciated....

Re: KC's Outpost, Beatty, Nevada

I would imagine the Sourdough has their liquor license by now, but who knows. I'll be there Thursday night, so we might go look. To be honest, there was a certain feel that place had with the old owner that I'm not sure will ever be back with the new. I've never eaten at Stovepipe Wells before, I'll...

Re: Death Valley February 2019

The burros are always in Beatty, like a long time friend. It's cool walking through town and seeing them.

Great pictures. Can't wait for our trip Thursday.

Re: KC's Outpost, Beatty, Nevada

I've always enjoyed eating there.....like you said, not many choices in Beatty! We are heading there later this week, I'll report back if they are still open or not. We went to the sourdough last November after they reopened under new owners. The food wasn't as good as before, not even close, and th...

Thanks. I've got the right vehicle and experience (did echo pass a few years ago). I appreciate the heads up though! Will definitely be wary about that last section of road though.

Nov 8-12

Heading to Death Valley again. Looks like we are gonna off-road and hike Trail Canyon one day, Darwin Falls and area one day, and Lemoigne Canyon one day. In addition, on the way into Beatty the first afternoon, we are gonna go to Ash Meadows again. Looking forward to it! If anyone has any recommend...

Re: 2006 Chev Avalanche: Where can it not go?

Thanks for the great info and the video, guys! This is all in the pre-pre-planning stages, and I have to be more cautious than most because if I do this, it means driving most of the way across the country and doing it solo. I could bring my wife, but even Hunter Mountain freaks her out. (Actually,...

Strozzi ranch a few years ago, felt something in my waistband area, sure enough a damn tick was burrowed in me. Got him out and went on with my day.

Re: Keane Wonder Mine area closed

Yup. Went there last year. Drove past and saw that it was open, so the next day we hiked up there. Was pretty cool to go see since it's been closed and I've never gotten to go.

Re: Blow'n in Beatty, NV - more than just a gas stop?

I usually use Beatty as a stepping off point before heading into the park. I think I've stayed at every hotel in Beatty, and I like the character of the Atomic Inn the best. However, Motel 6 is so easy to book and cancel (including cancelling the day of the reservation) that I stay there now. Anoth...
