Thanks David, Mom used to be pretty adventurous, but her health... As long as she can get warm and rest she will be happy.

She has traveled all over the world, but is convinced her traveling days are behind her. So I am hoping to give her an easy trip that will be fun for her.

So much depends on the nature of the winter and spring rains. As trailhound says, sometimes not much, then there was the famous spring of 05? Where the valley was covered with blooms. Seeing the flowers is always great, but consider it cherries on your sundae, there is so much to see and do, a trip ...

PSR

I am thinking of taking the whole family to Death Valley just after Christmas including my 80 year old Mother. Are the rooms at PSR rooms that she would be comfortable in? In room bathroom, good bed/mattress, clean etc?

Thanks,

Richard

The month depends partly on elevation. March sees low elevation blooms and they move upslope. By May most have faded.

Don't some folks spend more than 30 days at Saline Valley hot springs? For myself, I would not tell the Park Service of my plans. I would simply do what I please. Saying that, I would also not look for rescue. If they have no idea I am out there, they can't rescue me. If I screw up enough, I provide...

I have thought about hiking the ridge south of Telescope. My father in law who surveyed the monument boundary did that section by helicopter. He said that the gear and ability to rappel and belay yourself in places would be handy.

Thanks for the information. I need to poke about in the Argus Range a bit more there seems to be a lot of stuff to take a look at. Why do you think the Sierra Club site referred to it as "infamous Riley"?

"infamous Riley Town Site"

I just read on the internet of a Sierra Club trip that included visits to Ballarat and the "infamous Riley town site". I did not find any other references to this place on the net, anyone have knowledge of the place?

Thanks
Richard

It might be a fine place, I am unfamiliar with it. there is a place with a bunch of singlewide trailers stuck together, it looks like some cult compound. The land is wide open and goes forever. If there is a decent place to stay as yelladog might be, it would be well worth visiting

Well, first, Vya is a long way from Soldier Meadow, which was the winter camp for Fort McGarry Fort McGarry was located at Summit Lake a few miles north and much higher, and is off limits to whites. It is on a very isolated reservation and the Paiutes there are not real fond of whites. Another lake ...

Here is a cathouse, sitting on the side of the road, it has been abandoned for years. If not arson, what? spontaneous combustion of oily lingerie? Lightning? seems like god should have hit it years ago while it was in business if he had a problem with it.

Here is the likely scenario. Teenage vandals.
