David, thanks for the photos. It appears that aside from the structures involved, and the riparian areas, the fire was mostly in the sage, pretty fast moving I bet it was. I know that often people are frustrated with response times, but when an area gets hammered with lightning, the fire fighters ar...

So, I got the system, $59.99 at Best Buy, pretty simple as it turned out, the magnetic antenna sticks well to the roof catch at the center top of the windshield. The Docking block has a couple of attachment items, an adhesive mount or a clip into the vents. I decided to velcro the block and a spot j...

Thanks! Guys, I was unaware of the existence of magnetic antennas. That will something to look into. Magnetic would be good. I suppose you could tilt the windshield and run the wire through the space if the wire isn't subject to crushing. I have never dropped the windshield, but I think about it, He...

Sirius Radio

My wife has offered me Sirius Radio for my Jeep, but looking at the antennas, It appears tough to mount one that will work with the hard top off and on.

Anyone with knowledge of what can be done?

Darn, there are two "Duck" indian reservations in Nevada, Duck Valley and Duckwater, I tend to confuse them. It is actually the Duck Valley Indian Res. Shoshone Paiute.

Jarbidge is great, I camped at the end of the road, very green and lush. I did not look in on the bed and breakfast but it is supposed to be nice. The road from Elko was not open yet due to snow drifts, but there is a 4x4 mining road which drops off winds around and comes back up, I spent a lot of t...

Empty

Well, I got back, I will say this to ya'll if you are young, or young at heart, and like wild beautiful empty country get thee to Northern Elko County. I feel like I have wasted my first 55 years. How I never got up there before I don't know. I have been all over this country and several other conti...

Emptiest country in the lower 48?

I think about things sometimes. One of my thinkings is; what is the emptiest countryside in the Lower 48 states. I can tell you the most isolated place in America, unless someone proves me wrong. The Soldier Meadows Ranch north of the Black Rock Desert. But, I think, the emptiest landscape is the Ow...

I found a great little book. Silver Stampede by Neil Wilson, a history of Panamint City.

It is a detailed and interesting history of the place.

East Side Mono Lake

I have been curious about the Bodie and Benton Railway which carried lumber from the Mill at Mono Mills on highway 120 east of the Mono Craters. I went down this past weekend for my first top off outing of the year in my Jeep. Had a good trip almost. I found the railroad grade heading north from Mon...

Trail Canyon, I have ridden down the canyon from the cabins on my mountain bike. Didn't ride up, but that is another story!.

Riding down I was able to keep over 25 mph and sometimes up to 40. The gravel was not a problem, the whoop de do's were great fun.
