Thanks for the info, Mojave. I figured I wasn't too far away. I'm going to do Palmer again, probably from Titus Parking area, so I can see the Badlands and also get to the 80ft fall.

Enjoy your upcoming Death Valley vacation!!

Jan/Feb 2013 trip - Day 4 drive trip, and Day 6 report.

On Saturday, Feb/2, I took a driving trip, a day trip to see the Eureka Sand Dunes and the Hidden Dunes, for the first time, even if it would be from a distance (maybe someday I'll get to walk those dunes). I drove Hwy 190 to Lone Pine, then Hwy 395 up to Big Pine, then Hwy 168, then a right turn on...

Jan/Feb 2013 trip - Day 5, Palmer Canyon, hike report.

I'm going to write about my Day-4 and Day-6 trips in a combined report later. My Day-5 was a real good hike up Palmer Canyon, to see the narrows I've read alot about. I hiked up to Palmer Canyon from Scotty's Castle Rd (abbv to SCR), not using the Titus Canyon parking area (TCP). I'll say more about...

Candace, I'll just say that's it's a very, very, very rare cat that could love a trip to Death Valley.

Thanks Gowergulch42, Mojave.

Mojave, I forgot about MacClean spring. I'll try to do that on my next visit. I saw your other reply in upcoming trips - hope you enjoy your upcoming visit to Death Valley! Bet you're glad to get away from all that snow!

Thanks Steve. Canyon 1 looks nice too. Steve, I was very impressed with Visitors Center upgrade. Lots of exhibits, and they target a wider range of people and children. Congratulations on having some of your items exhibited. They upgraded the 3D display relief model table too - it has buttons that l...

Jan/Feb 2013 trip - Day 3, hike report

This was my 2nd visit to the Owlshead Mts, for a hike of Owlshead Canyon, the canyon just to the left of Talc Canyon. Just like last year, it seemed like a hike in the Owlsheads was the highlight of the trip. The park/hike starting point is on Harry Wade Rd, immediately off Badwater Rd. Owlshead Can...

Jan/Feb 2013 trip - Day 2, hike report

Day 2, Thurs, Jan/31 - Salt Creek Marsh area I've wanted to hike around the Salt Creek area for quite awhile, especially the Salt Marsh area to see the Salt Grass. I'm sure alot of people have walked the canyons around Salt Creek boardwalk area. And many have seen the Salt Marsh area. Those are two ...

Jan/Feb 2013 trip - Summary and 1st hike report

I really enjoyed my Death Valley trip Jan/29 - Feb/5, six days, seven nights. I camped all seven nights at Texas Springs campground, and the experience there was good. Heard the Furnace Creek Coyote gang just about every night, whether they were far off in the distance or close by the campground. Fi...

Just got back home after visiting DVNP Jan/29-Feb/5. Had a great trip. Hiked on Mesquite Flat, around Salt Creek area, Owlshead Canyon, Palmer Canyon (hiked up from Scotty's Castle Rd), Dante's View, Golden Canyon & Gower Gulch loop and did my driving trip (via 190 to Lone Pine, Big Pine, 168) to Bi...

Steve, thanks for the post. And thanks for your write-ups on Owlshead, Talc, Palmer. In Owlshead Canyon, not sure I'll be able to bypass the first fall. If I can't find a safe bypass, I'll turn around, and perhaps explore any side canyons there, if I have the time and energy. Also, if I decide to ta...

It's Badwater, but way out there, I think past halfway point to West Side Rd. I was walking pretty much due west. And photo is looking toward southern direction. I can only guess the narrow trail in the photo is the dry bed of the Amargosa River. There must have been a past rush of flowing water. Th...
