salt pan pic

Held camera low to the ground for this picture. Salt ridges look bigger than normal. Next time I get out there, will make an effort to get pics taken really low to the ground, at the different salt areas. I think it's possible to get some better unique and interesting pics. http://i1117.photobucket....

Agreed. I got a 1965 set of Funk and Wagnalls that parents bought for us. I just looked at the Death Valley entry; interesting - there's both accurate and inaccurate information on the nearly one-page entry. 1965 is not 2012. Wish I could get a 2010 set of Encyclopedia Britannica too. We're stuck in...

Magnificent work on the Star Wars sites. Lord Vader & the Emperor would be proud.

Congratulations on the upcoming baby!

Don't worry, Death Valley isn't going anywhere. It'll be there whenever you can get back.

Hi Mojave, thanks for the additional info. Like you said, it's good to get the different input. All your information on the Red Wall bypass is very good, as is Talus Jack's. I've pulled my calves real bad twice in the last 3 years (one in Death Valley), so I need to get in better shape before I do s...

Talus Jack, thanks again for the additional info.

I still want to try this bypass.

I also liked your report of hill 2722.

Thanks again.

Mojave, thanks for the additional info and pics!!

It's good info. For a non-climbing solo hiker, I'll have a tricky decision to make in the future if I think of taking the bypass. I may just wait until I can hike with at least one other person.

Thanks again.

Mars and the Mojave Festival

Thanks Steve!! Hope you enjoy it. FYI, I just found some other links mentioning the festival and providing a little additional info. http://www.nasa.gov/centers/ames/events/2012/03-09-2012_mars-and-the-mojave.html http://www.seti.org/mars-mojave-festival-2012 http://www.kcet.org/socal/socal_wanderer...

Thanks for the update Mojave!! And glad you made it to Death Valley and had a good trip!!

I don't feel so "guilty" now, not doing the bypass on my visit at the beginning of the month. I was hiking solo.
But I may try it on a future trip.

Oh, and thanks again to Talus Jack for posting the bypass.

Thanks netllama. That's good info on the conditions. I didn't mean to confuse or scare anybody, or give any false forecast on conditions. I'm sorry about that. Heck, I only drove on Harry Wade about 20 or 30 yards - I started the Talc Canyon hike right there. I just got scared because I almost got s...
