Visitation is up but even the off-road groups who enjoy DVNP don't really go hiking.

While it gets cool at night during the summer it is rare to be freezing up there. My first trip to DV was high up in the Panamints during Aug and it was hot as hell at night. I don't remember if there was a high pressure system sitting on the area at that time.

When you do get to Saline there are two hikes right from the springs. The black hills to the north and the peace sign to the south. You can also hike up to the upper srpings.

Re: Pictures

Why do they care if you post pictures as long as you don't say where they are? Because people aren't dumb and can figure out where things are based on geological features. I for one specifically found an Indian site based on one trip report from the net. Nothing was said about the location but I us...

I had planned to be in Saline this week but both passes are snowed in and I don't want to do Lippincott. Had my fill just after new years.

Lee Flat is a great place. Another wonderful aspect of the variety that is Death Valley. Getting to Nelson Cabin in a full size long bed may be tricky once you get up to the cabin. It is pretty tight up there. Also temps get cool up at that altitude during the winter.

...Finally, the book, Silver Stampede by Neill C. Wilson also shows a picture of the original road up Surprise Canyon. The book was published in 1937 and may be hard to find. Thank you for the book reference. I'd not known about this book. A new addition to the DV library. Should arrive tomorrow. T...

While I haven't read this whole thread I will say that after I switched to AT/T from Sprint I noticed MUCH better coverage in Owens Valley. I liked most of my Sprint features better but it comes down to safety and being able to communicate with friends/loved ones.
