Investigators think they know who tore up Death Valley's fragile Racetrack Playa in an SUV http://www.latimes.com/local/california/la-me-death-valley-damage-20160927-snap-story.html What do you want to bet that they were drunk when they did it? I think you're giving them too much credit. Probably s...

Just wanted to note that a 2nd Edition for this book was released this past April. The book description does list more pages than the 1st edition. If anyone has info about the changes to the 2nd edition please share. Thanks. https://www.amazon.com/Hiking-Death-Valley-Natural-Wonders/dp/0965917835/re...

I too have pictures somewhere of Piston Point from one of my trips. If memory serves the actual place was before the steps and up higher on the plateau section of the Steel Pass/Dedeckera Canyon road. Heading from Saline it was before the steps of Dedeckera. It was removed by the NPS.

There is no signage unless it was recently replaced. The park service took it down several years ago.

Taken from another forum discussing this sad topic: "The Racetrack is a famous feature of Death Valley National Park. People want to see it. Local communities demand that it stay open to bring in the tourist dollars. The solution at the Racetrack will be to bring in more public with management. The ...

The tailgate is a porch and allows more room for gear and doormat. A lot of pop-up owners don't like the tailgate on but I like it.

It is a bummer FWC isn't making the Eagle/Finch and have gone with a wider profile.

Yes they are a rare FWC. For one person they are great. Heck I've mostly used mine for two person trips and spent 10hrs inside during a rainstorm. Only drawback over an Eagle is lack of ability to stealth camp but when mine is loaded for a trip there's no way to get in there anyhow.

May be too late but this is a good place to watch for a Finch. This is the 2nd one to be posted for sale lately.

I've seen laughable quality security cams that have helped incarcerate jackwads. Carry on.

You say that as if it were the most trivial thing ever to accomplish. I'm left to believe that you have no experience with this sort of thing. First there's the cost of the equipment, which would have to be deployed in such a way that every part of the valley was captured in fine enough detail that...

It would be great if the NPS could put up cameras at points of entry into the area or anywhere around specific sites for that matter. All they would have to do is review the video record and have all the evidence they would need for prosecution.

Too bad we don't have gallows ready and waiting for tools who decide to behave this way. Fortunately when I've been to the Racetrack it was pristine. I don't get it. There are so many places in the desert to do stupid crap that aren't in a national park. I don't think any new monuments in the Mojave...
