Steve, I would love to have you post some reports on Ibex Dunes, Greenwater Canyon, and Marble Main Side Canyon. Those are some of the close areas I want to visit when we are down late March for 10 or so nights. I see you are a new first time father? I'm 56 and all my three kids are in their twentie...

Yes the road from Scotty's Castle, 267, to 95 is finally open. But Big Pine Road from Eureka Valley east to Ubehebe Rd, if I am reading this right. Big Pine Road................... Open from the west to Eureka Valley Road; CLOSED east of Eureka Valley to Ubehebe Crater Road. Scotty's Castle Road ......

I haven't been there. I'm sure others will post. Be sure to report back after your trip. I'll be there for a long trip in March and that is an area I plan on going. My 2wd Tundra does well on 4wd roads until things get sandy. I did real well on the road .2 mile south of Galena Canyon Rd to the south...

Take a look at this post from 2010. I don't know if you have to drive the Lemoigne Canyon Rd. to get there(last March my 2wd Tundra decided against it).

Really amazing and nice. What type of vehicle were you driving? I don't think I will be going that far out when I am down in March but who knows.

I was nine years old when I first visited DV in 1966. The visitor center was always a highlight as a kid, along with the nightly ranger shows. One exhibit I really liked, kinda corney, was the lost 49er's party(?) exhibit in the wall with audio tape I would play over and over again. Too bad about th...

Thanks for the feed back. I had purchased the NG map at the VC but didn't have it with me. It looks like maybe I was not on the Red Amp trail. I drove to what I thought was the end of Whole in the Wall Rd. where I did slip in my 2wd Tundra as I was turning around to park, about six miles. This was o...

Well that's just great! Now I have to find all those canyons I haven't been to. When we are back in March I don't want to drive as much as our last trip so I'm looking for canyons as far north as Red Wall, Marble and canyons off West Side road to the west, 178 on the south and canyons east within th...

Mojave, Hope your health is good these days. When we were in RMNP in August we specified from Hertz a rav4 or similar, had the option of Equinox or others but took the rav4, which we have at home, as it has a full size spare. So perhaps OP could chose that at pick up time if available. We used the r...

I too think you should do Titus as you are coming in. Your rented vehicle will be fine. Better if 4WD but not necessary for many roads. You need to check the morning report before Titus to see how it is. The best info on road conditions is actually at the visitor center as the web page and the phone...

Trip Report from March 2012

I thought rather than rewriting I would just repost my report I did on Trip Advisor for our trip 3/18-3/25/12. We had a great time! When I was nine in 1966 our family and others started going to DV almost every spring break through 1973, then I went on and off until 1978. Always camped lower loop Te...

The third week of March 1966 when I was nine we had a scorpion in our big green canvas tent at Texas Spring Campground, lower loop. After that we switched to a canvas tent trailer, off the ground! I returned after 32 years the last three end of March's and haven't encountered anything. Haven't been ...

I don't know what it is like now but I was down for a week and a half the latter part of March this year. We were at the trail head and very little snow left, especially compared to last year when it was closed past the Charcoal Kilns. We met a couple of hikers who had just hiked the peak with no pr...

We went to the dunes two weeks ago on the Death Valley road from Scotty's Castle cut off as we were camping in the park. The road was much better than I had read about. The only washboard part was at the beginning for about ten miles, then it smoothed out. They (CalTrans?) were grading on our drive....
