Re: Has anyone hiked across DV at Badwater?

I would like to. When it's cooler. We come late March and late October when it is too hot for that. A few years ago in the summer I believe a younger guy tried that, turned round but had run out of water. Died. So he might have been the "one" person that dies every year in DV due to heat. I agree..I...

It will be a radial reopening and actual dates haven't been set over the next couple of weeks. https://www.facebook.com/DeathValleyNPS "DEATH VALLEY, CA – Death Valley National Park announced tod...

Re: Snow on Telescope Peak

I am enjoying reading all your posts on hiking this peak. I yet to do it and I have been coming back to DV at least yearly since 2010 after being away for 32 years. I'll be back again this late March but I won't be hiking it then. I'll need to condition more and will do the hike this end of October ...

Re: Park Closure

This has changed. The campgrounds are open but the bathrooms are closed. S fine if you have a trailer, etc.

What a mess. I've heard that earlier people were asked to leave the campgrounds. Now they are open.

Re: Conversation with Jane Lakeman - DV Curator

Why are they shooting? What purpose? I have met the two police rangers this past late October because there were issues at Texas Springs with weekenders. Maybe they are keeping up with their skills?

Re: Park Closure

"Closures include all visitor contact stations, 3 FC campgrounds & Mesquite Springs. Sites include several restrooms, Natural Bridge, Salt Creek & Keane Wonder. Closures are for resource & visitor protection. Other sites may close as conditions change." So Furnace Creek, Sunset and Texas Springs are...

Re: Mosaic Canyon Road is closed through June 30, 2019

I believe the park has said you can cross country hike around the construction and rejoin the road above the construction. They ask that you park by the ranger station. "Suggested alternative route around road closure (not a designated trail) adds an additional five miles to the hike (total 9 miles)...

Re: Oasis construction update Oct 3rd

So most is open but it’s a bit of a ghost town right now. Very few getting around the ranch but I’m sure that will change next week and beyond. The new much better larger store is where the steak house was(which decades ago was a economical buffet), Where the bar was is an open area with not quite o...
