Re: Death Valley February 2019

The burros are always in Beatty, like a long time friend. It's cool walking through town and seeing them.

Great pictures. Can't wait for our trip Thursday.

Re: KC's Outpost, Beatty, Nevada

I've always enjoyed eating there.....like you said, not many choices in Beatty! We are heading there later this week, I'll report back if they are still open or not. We went to the sourdough last November after they reopened under new owners. The food wasn't as good as before, not even close, and th...

Re: Nov 8-12

Thanks. I've got the right vehicle and experience (did echo pass a few years ago). I appreciate the heads up though! Will definitely be wary about that last section of road though.

Nov 8-12

Heading to Death Valley again. Looks like we are gonna off-road and hike Trail Canyon one day, Darwin Falls and area one day, and Lemoigne Canyon one day. In addition, on the way into Beatty the first afternoon, we are gonna go to Ash Meadows again. Looking forward to it! If anyone has any recommend...

Re: 2006 Chev Avalanche: Where can it not go?

Thanks for the great info and the video, guys! This is all in the pre-pre-planning stages, and I have to be more cautious than most because if I do this, it means driving most of the way across the country and doing it solo. I could bring my wife, but even Hunter Mountain freaks her out. (Actually,...

Re: Ticks in Death Valley

Strozzi ranch a few years ago, felt something in my waistband area, sure enough a damn tick was burrowed in me. Got him out and went on with my day.

Re: Keane Wonder Mine area closed

Yup. Went there last year. Drove past and saw that it was open, so the next day we hiked up there. Was pretty cool to go see since it's been closed and I've never gotten to go.

Re: Blow'n in Beatty, NV - more than just a gas stop?

I usually use Beatty as a stepping off point before heading into the park. I think I've stayed at every hotel in Beatty, and I like the character of the Atomic Inn the best. However, Motel 6 is so easy to book and cancel (including cancelling the day of the reservation) that I stay there now. Anoth...

Re: Blow'n in Beatty, NV - more than just a gas stop?

We typically stay at motel 6 in Beatty. Has always been clean and don't really have any complaints. The only downside is if you have a noisy neighbor......the sound carries through the walls very easily.

Re: KEANE WONDER MINE IS REOPENING

Was just there on November 12th. This was my first time there, so I don't know how it looked before. They have stabilized some of the wood structures near the parking area, and also the tramway. Up at the mine, more wooden structures are stabilized as well. All the mine tunnels have bars or steel ne...

We stay in Beatty every death valley trip. Cheap blackjack and poker in the casino. Some decent spots to eat there too.

Re: Defense Mine Conditions

Planning on heading to Defense Mine this March. I was wondering if anyone has payed a visit recently? Curious to know how the roads are. I'll have a stocked 4x4 Tacoma with Rear locks, I'm not looking to go crazy with pushing my PU limit....but I do want to get up there. How difficult is the road? ...

Re: Keane Wonder Mine area closed

I have been going to death valley a long time, and would love to see it open again since I have never been there. I'm all for safety, but I feel they close too many places down, or fix them up to make them safer. When I go out there, I want to see how things were. If I want to go into a mine, I shou...
