Death Valley is listed as #8 for the top places to visit in 2008:

DV #8

That's a good thing, considering that DV visitor counts have suffered tremendously since the 911 attack, and fuel prices are off the chart! It will certainly help DVNP income I suppose.

During my Thanksgiving visit, I thought it interesting that gas prices in Beatty were $1.01 cheaper than at Furnace Creek Ranch!

Beatty Gas

Post by oldtrailmaster » Mon Dec 10, 2007 5:08 pm

Interesting, isn't it, that Beatty always seems to be so much less for fuel than in the Park. It doesn't seem that much farther or difficult to access Furnace Creek than Beatty, so I wonder why the significant increase in price. Whatever the reason, is doesn't help with folks who are "on the fence" regarding a DVNP visit. Probably a good bet that Park employees get their fuel in Beatty. Well, maybe the New York Times rating will change all that, huh? Time will tell.

Furnace Creek is in California, Beatty is in Nevada.
State taxes.

I have only one trip to DVNP to draw on, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that gas prices at Trona were so much lower than in the Park. I've decided to launch my future adventures through there whenever possible.
