Oddity mine works near Corkscrew Canyon

Post by Death Valley Dazed » Fri Nov 30, 2018 6:45 am

I've been in and out of Corkscrew Canyon six times over the past five years and never noticed this mine entrance that is shaped like an upside down "V". I just happened to glance back over my right shoulder on the way back from Blue Mountain and spotted it, "Wow, what in the world is that?" It looked like a natural cave-in from a fault crack but as I approached, it had mine tailings at the mouth.

I've never seen a mine sealed off with huge slabs of hard foam rubber like this either. Well, it was worth a few camera shots as the sun set behind the clouds. If you're ever in Corkscrew keep an eye open for it on the east side near the mouth. It's only a few hundred yards off on a gentle slope. I'm calling the "A" mine because it looks like the capital letter "A."
