Daylight Pass Peak - Sept 2017

Post by Death Valley Dazed » Wed Sep 20, 2017 10:39 pm

This seldom climbed peak is the highpoint of the ridgeline transversing Daylight Pass between Beatty, NV and the Death Valley Buttes. The ridgeline and peak look quite nondescript from the parking area atop the pass.

There are a total of four knolls between the highway parking spot and the summit. Not visible from the highway are strange rock formations, smooth red vertical slabs, caves, geode beds and colorful plants and lichens. The views of The Funerals, Grapevines, Panamints and Cottonwoods is superb.

This moderately strenuous hike takes only a half day at most. I was unable to ascertain the actual name of the peak and the Nat Geo map shows a topo elevation of 6053 feet. The register at the peak summit showed a party of three last made a mark in March 2016. This was shot in September 2017 when the temperature was in the high 90's.

Is it really that red up there, or did you do some processing to the images?
Looks like a cool place. Bob Burd has a TR with GPS tracks for a number of peaks in that area.
