Above Keane Wonder Mine

Post by Death Valley Dazed » Thu Jan 11, 2018 11:42 am

After the reopening of Keane Wonder in Nov 2017, I hiked up well above and east of the main mine entrances to some mines I had spotted about five years ago. Curious, I scrambled up the south side of the steep canyon and checked out four of the holes in the canyon wall.

That's interesting to see. I assume that the "looking back" is over to the main Keane mines, right?

Once many years ago after visiting the King Midas mine (next canyon to the SW we tried coming over the ridge to these mines. There's all sorts of trails and prospects in there, but in the end we could not descend the cliff to the mine and ended up crossing the canyon a bit down stream, through quite a pile of rusty junk which was obviously the dump for Keane.

Check out King Midas some time if you haven't. There's a nice note posted in the shelter of the mine opening.
