New Posts

Hi,
When I visit your site I must remember which forums are marked with new posts because after I look at the first two when I return to the main index all the little bells are now blank. Even if they were colored in bofore.

I had quite a few problems when I first came here and with your help they were all fixed. What do you think about this one?

That's a bug with how cookies are handled. There's no fix at this time.

Should be better with the next major site update (no ETA though).

I don't know if it's just me or has the cookie handling for new posts gotten a little worse after last weekends upgrade/maintenance?

Here's how I take care of that problem, the bells being blank. When I have DV.us open, I right click on the forum I want to look at and "open in a new window". I also do that for any posts in the forum. I can read it or respond to it and then "X" it out and I'm back where I started with all the little bells telling me what I need to know.

Could be, although I haven't noticed. Maintenance was just performance tweaking, there were no upgrades, so cookies issue shouldn't be worse nor better.

Upgrades are planned some time after phpBB3 (Olympus) is released.

Another trick is to click the "View Posts Since Last Visit" link when you first get to the forum. This gives you a list of just that. When you click on a topic, open it in a new window to keep your "new posts" list intact. Of course, I went to pull this trick two days ago -- when I arrived at the forum there were lots of new posts (judging by the colored icons) but when I clicked the "View New Posts..." link the page came up with no posts listed.

The way how session cookies are handled is slighty different now.

The situation with "new posts" should be better now.

OK I'll let you know how well it works... (for me anyways)

Thanks Bighorn
