Marble Canyon Road

Post by shortyharris » Wed Mar 21, 2018 9:50 pm

We are hoping to do a day hike down Marble Canyon. Have a high clearance Jeep with 4wd.

Everything I can find about marble canyon road is a loop starting in cottonwood canyon. Is there a reason no one ever starts in Marble Canyon? We were hoping to drive as far as possible and then hike out to the petroglyph site.

Thanks for any insights!!!

I don't really have an answer for you, but will say that Marble Canyon is great. I drove in from Stovepipe Wells as far as you are allowed to drive and hiked up a few miles and back. I saw some petroglyphs, but found the rock formations more interesting. Got some nice shots of some bighorn sheep and a rattlesnake in addition to the colorful rocks.

The Marble Canyon road takes you as far as the bottom of the first narrows (if "narrows" can even be applied). Not sure why you weren't able to find anything about it, it's perfectly useable. The junction with Cottonwood Canyon road can be easy to miss but is marked with a big metal pole and sign. See my report here:
