Holes in the Desert

Interesting article about modern day train robberies, meth labs and murders in the Mojave desert by Kim Stringfellow with the Mojave Project.

That was interesting, thanks for the link. Sad to hear about the poaching and dumping. Any idea which canyon in DV the meth lab used?

"Any idea which canyon in DV the meth lab used?"

It's a small unnamed canyon in low hills west of the Harry Wade road and south of the Owlshead road. I've been to the site.

IIRC, the stuck van that the infamous lost Germans were driving was spotted in Anvil Spring Canyon by a helicopter looking for signs of drug-related activity...

That document mentions a police chase from near Beatty on Hwy 95 that ended up near FC, and the subsequent shootout. There's another account of that incident, written by someone who was in the FC area and monitoring the relevant radio frequencies, here: http://forums.radioreference.com/califo ... ost1048100

Very interesting read, thanks.

The poster calling himself "Tumbleweed" at this forum is likely the same "Tumbleweed" who used to post here in this forum's early "death-valley.us" days. He was a Park Service employee who lived in Beatty, but I believe (if my memory hasn't been lost with my age) transferred to another park. I've met him on occasion in the late 1990s and early 2000's, but haven't run into him since.
