Six days across Nevada

Post by netllama » Sat Jul 05, 2014 6:56 pm

I just returned from a six day camping trip across central Nevada (roughly from Mono Lake to Great Basin National Park). We had a fantastic time exploring an area that is often ignored by most folks. Highlights of the trip included Bodie Ghost Town, Mono Lake, Berlin Ichthyosaur State Park, Cathedral Gorge State Park, Great Basin National Park and Belmont Mill ghost town. Here's a selection of the highlights.

Neat shot of the plaque of Docia Lucas Bailey, I presume in the Unionville cemetery. Her husband's grave is found near Rye Patch reservoir below the historic grave of Susan Coon, who died in 1860 giving birth to her son while travelling along the Lassen-Applegate Trail. Bailey's grave is hard to spot as the plaque is laid down slightly below ground level. Baily was a Unionville prospector and he was murdered along with another man (name escapes me presently).

Your Outback appears to be the same color as mine.

Six days across was too short

Your black and whites are real eye candy. My imagination runs wild with the stories behind each of your photos. Thanks for sharing!

That glacier at Great Basin shrinks every year, was there in mid August and there was at least enough left for me and the grandkids to have a snowball fight. Saw many wild turkeys there for the first time ever after visiting at least once a year for the past decade.

Thank God for the NPS and open spaces like your post reveals so well!
