Man rescued from desert near Nopah Mt's south of Pahrump

Not much detail out there yet. Namely, to explain how and why he was out there, reportedly barefoot, shirtless, and evidently without any supplies. Or why he waited until he was in bad shape before calling for help.
An unidentified man is recovering at a hospital after being found Wednesday in a remote part of California south of Pahrump.

The man was located through the use of by GPS capabilities after the Nye County dispatch office was contacted by Inyo County officials. Nye deputies talked with the man on his cell phone, but he was very hard to communicate with because of his condition and inability to respond.

GPS capabilities on the man's cell phone were used to determine his location at the base of the Nopah Mountains in California south of Pahrump, an extremely difficult area to access.

Various Nye County officers began search efforts. Nye County Search and Rescue, Emergency Services and Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue Services assisted.

By utilizing all-terrain vehicles the man was found. He was severely dehydrated and sunburned.

NCSO Undersheriff Brent Moody begin administering fluids via IV and provided medical treatment.

Utilizing all terrain vehicles, the man was transported. Pahrump Valley and Fire Rescue Services transported him to Desert View Hospital.

Technology and human effort saved this persons life. Hope he makes a complete recovery but I would say he was very very lucky.

They said when found he had no shoes and no shirt. Sounds like a close brush with death.

Found this update...apparently the victim was from Inyo County, but officials still haven't revealed his name:

Nye County units rescue Inyo Co. Man

A team of Nye County Nevada personal rescued a Inyo County man last week. The Nye County Sheriffs Department has released details from the search and rescue, but are not releasing the name of the victim.

Nye County Sheriffs department statement:

On Wednesday, August 12th Nye County Sheriffs Office Dispatch was contacted by Inyo County referencing an individual lost in the desert. NCSO Dispatch spoke with this man on his cell phone however due to his condition he was extremely difficult to understand and often could not respond.

NCSO Dispatch utilized GPS capabilities on the man’s cell phone and located coordinates of his location. The coordinates were at the base of the Nopah Mountains and extremely difficult to access.
NCSO Street Crimes Detectives, Patrol Deputies, and NCSO Administration began search efforts. Nye County Search and Rescue, Emergency Services and Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue Services assisted in efforts.
