Flower ID

Post by MojaveGeek » Mon Feb 08, 2016 8:54 pm

Last year saw a bunch of these in the main lower portion of Trail Canyon. I am fascinated by the brown leaves. But I have no idea what it is. Can anyone help?

I'd guess it's a Golden Evening Primrose, but I'm no desert flower expert. I recently saw in DV quite a few flowers that look like the one in your photo, and some had the brown leaves while others had greener leaves (unless I'm getting two different types of flowers mixed up).

I'll confirm Kauri's identification. Jim Boone has information on the plant here -

Thank you. That does indeed look like a good ID but I'm still puzzled by the brown leaves. It was not just this single plant that had brown leaves - they all did. It was a gravel wash, which is the right habitat though.
