12 volt freezer

Post by dave2 » Sat Mar 20, 2010 10:16 pm

I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier.

Posted a "wanted" ad on craigslist, and bought a 45 QT. Engel for $200!!! I probably could have bought it cheaper, but that was the price I listed.
(They are selling for $800 new!)

Frozen drinks can be used to cool you off, even before you take drink. Hold them under your armpit, or against your neck. Knowing you have ice cold beers back at camp can be quite a motivational tool.

I use the same one. There is nothing like having rootbeer floats on day five in the desert. ;-)

Another source is self service junkyards, but it is rare. I spotted an RV in an Ecology yard, and got the 120/12v fridge out of it. They let it go for 6 bucks.

I went out and bought a wireless digital indoor/ outdoor thermometer for $10. I put the outdoor part in the cooler and the indoor part in the front seat console. It works great. I know what's going on in there at a glance.
