Google Earth and Marble Bath

Post by birkoff » Fri Nov 22, 2013 10:03 am

I noticed this when looking at a Google view of Saline Valley in the Marble Bath area. Below are the juxtaposed image and USGS map .....I know there are established opinions on this....just saying.

That marking on the topo is incorrect

The "marble bath" that is marked on the topo is incorrect. Tom Harvey dug up some good records from the USGS, who make the maps. See the second page of this topic where I quote from the copy of that document that Tom got:

In a nutshell, USGS officially concludes that the "real" Marble Bath is a short ways up a canyon in the Last Chance Range a bit further to the north. I've been lucky enough to have been there years ago. At the time I did not realize that I was seeing the "true" Marble Bath but it did occur to me then that if I were looking around for a "Marble Bath" that would have been it.
