Overnight roadside parking and camping paperwork

Post by bbb » Fri Nov 04, 2016 9:16 pm

I have some December overnight hikes tentatively planned where I'd be leaving a car parked next to some major road for a night or two. I've done plenty of day hiking in Death Valley this way. But I'm curious as to what rules, regs, and general practice would be for overnight parking.

Do I need to get a tag to hang in the car? Do I need an outdoor permit for camping? I know the Park Service was talking about making these mandatory a year or two ago. Appreciate it if anyone has any info.

i've left my truck at the side of most of DV's major roads for 1-3 nights a bunch of times with no problems. i leave my annual pass on the dashboard. no permits are required.
