Post by Death Valley Dazed » Mon Oct 21, 2019 6:05 am

Labor Day Weekend 2019 drive from Lone Pine, California into the 120-degree heat of Death Valley National Park. Views of The Panamint Valley, Mesquite Sand Dunes at sunrise along with scenes around the Visitors Center. where it was so hot that the thermometer broke!

I was having visions of the comic strip icon of the mercury shooting out of the top of the long glass thermometer :)

Well, MojaveGeek please don't rule this out completely because I understand that the display in front of the VC is connected to the official thermometer somewhere in the back of the VC. So who knows, maybe there is now a toxic spill of liquid mercury of superfund proportions that Supervisor Mike Reynolds now must contend with.

:help:

BTW - went I saw the "broken" sign taped to the display for just a split second I did wonder if the 134-degree record had been surpassed but I immediately said no because it was too late in the year and it did not feel like 130 degrees. It did feel like more than 110 degrees, however.
