Joshua Tree NP closed due to you-know-what

Post by Candace_66 » Sat Mar 21, 2020 9:30 pm

At some point during the day today (Saturday), the decision was taken to completely close Joshua Tree National Park.

I was out on an extended hike. When I got back to my vehicle there was a yellow citation sticker on the windshield. With the hand-written message "Park closed - exit through Cottonwood Springs."

Thanks for the heads up. I know Yosemite is closed and I'm sure Death Valley would be as well if it didn't have a highway running through it.

Closing all services (sans gas stations) and eliminating park fees right now seems like a recipe for stress / disaster down in DV. Hope the rangers are holding up all right. Seems like they're always getting the short end of the stick between shutdowns, lack of funding, and now this.

The residents in the small desert communities around JTNP are not happy with the migration of city dwellers to their area...

Unfortunately, too many fools are treating the current situation as an opportunity for a vacation.

Indeed. Mayors in Italy have a unique approach to people that still wander about...
